You know, it's actually okay to remake a movie and change it somewhat. I liked the original, just like like most JW movies, but it'll be fun to watch it with a slight spin, with new characters and maybe some interesting twists from the original.

Either way, I think it'll be worth the cost to see it on the "big screen." It looks like a whole lot of testosterone induced fun!

      the SCENE

the finale in the meadow above Ouray, Colorado with the blue sky and golden aspens; charging horses and blazing winchesters!

        Dale,

McMurtry originally planned lonesome dove for Wayne, Stewart and one other guy and called it "streets of Laredo". Wayne and the others turned it down and McMurtry shelved it. He later rewrote it into the novel lonesome dove

Jeff Bridges playing John Waynes part in True Grit, hard to beat the original.

That's why its called acting and winning the Academy Award Best Actor last year sure helps.

However - everyone else in the original SUCKED!! So I'm going to go out on a limb here, though not very far and say from a pure cinema experience this is going to be one to see. I hope Jeff Bridges at least does the Duke justice.

I just wonder if it'll have too bad a language for my 9yr old to go see it? He liked the original, just kinda worried this one might be too much in the violence, and language for him!

16 more days till we can put this to rest.

Here are three reasons why this retribution film has a chance to be as good or better than the original.

                      Joel and Ethan Coen

I recently re-watched No Country For Old Men for the 5th or 6th time. Every dang second of it is bulls eye Texas art. The angles, the scenery, the hushed voices, the absence of music, the tension, the accents, the twisted violence... for whatever reason, these boys know how to shoot this stuff. They will bring the same beauty, majesty and western pride to True Grit as well. I have no doubt they will shoot the scenes better than the original. It's what they do.

                      Jeff Bridges

Jeff has been a star since the Last Picture Show (1971) where he was nominated for Best Actor in a Supporting role (losing to Ben Johnson as Sam the Lion in the same movie((greatness)). As he proved in Crazy Heart with Academy decorations, he understands grizzled old Texan better than anyone in Hollywood. It does not matter if he measures up to the Duke, one thing is certain, he's the right man for this.

Here's the kicker that should give you confidence to see this on the big screen, the Washington_D.C._Area_Film_Critics_Association_ has already nominated Jeff for best actor in the role as Marshal Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn.

Of course Jeff is no Duke, but he will do just fine.

                      go see it

the reason the original had a happy ending is because glen cambell died.

No kidding, I was mere seconds from googling "True Grit debut date".....wierd.

I'm looking forward to it, if for no other reason than I get to go see a western in a movie theater.

I'm a huge John Wayne fan and never can see how any of his movies can be re-made but i'll be seeing this movie.
