The trailer looked good. Not many westerns hit the big screen these days.

It looks good, but it's not fair to compare to the original, nobody could match John Wayne's "Rooster Cogburn".

Would have been cool to see Tommy Lee Jones in this one. He was great as Woodrow Call in Lonesome Dove, a role the Duke turned down.

I'd rather have folks re-making my favorite westerns, than creating modern crap movies. I didn't give Tombstone much of a chance before it came out either....boooooy was I wrong about that one.

I had the opportunity to ride in 4 scenes as an extra while they were doing the filming in Granger. I would have liked it better if we would have worn more "Cowboy" style clothing, but I had a good time, don't know if I will make it to the screen until it hits the theaters. I'm a big John Wayne fan, too bad he's gone, but I think the re-make will be good. The girl in the first one drove me nuts, but this one seems to be a lot better actor, all the scenes I rode in were scenes with her involved.

A few months ago Texas Monthly had a great article with the backstory of Lonesome Dove.....Larry McMurtry's initial idea for the story, in the early 1970s, was as a film that would star John Wayne as Call, Jimmy Stewart as McCrae, and Henry Fonda as Jake Spoon. John Wayne was not too interested in it, however, and McMurtry shelved the project for several years before taking the screenplay and completing it as a novel in the mid-80s.

Take a look at most period pics though and alot more folks (Esp. in Towns) were dressed just like you than as cowboys. I know you can't replace the Duke, but I think this is one is going to be more orginal to the book than to whatever John Wayne and the Directors of the 60's and 70's THOUHGT the old west should be.... JMHO....

Agreed, although I wouldn't go so far as to say it sucked, but IMO Wyatt Earp was a much better movie. Just wished they would have had Val Kilmer play Doc Holliday in that version, now that would have rocked.

John Wayne was awesome in True Grit, deserved the Oscar he got for it. But I couldn't stand that dad-blamed Glen Campbell. I was glad he got whacked at the end of the movie.

I expect the new movie to be a disapointment in comparsion but ,Hey at least its a western , and we don't see to many of those any more.

I love John Wayne movies, but if it's anywhere near as good as No Country For Old Men, count me in. True Grit without Glen Campbell? I'm there!
