True Grit is my favorite "Duke" film of all time.......even with the annoying Matty Ross charachter. I've got 20 or so of his movies in the collection, some I got for my birthday and havn't even watched yet. I have a picture of the Duke from Sons of Katie Elder hanging in my deer blind.....you could say I'ma fan.
You could never expect anyone they run out there now to hold a candle to John Wayne. And as bad as I hate Jeff Bridges, he is a fine actor, and one of few who could make a run at this. Matt Damon can't be beat in many roles, and Josh Brolin......well it's just too bad Tom Cheney wasn't a bigger part of the story because he's greatness.
I've wrestled with this since I heard about it, but for the sake of trying to keep an open mind, I think I'll go see it.......Blair will like it too, so it'll be worth the 35 bucks a ticket or whatever they get now.
BTW does it **** anyone else off whenever they talk about every new movie that comes out being the "highest grossing movie of all time"????? Well no **** Sherlock, that's because tickets cost 14 bucks now, where they were 5 when I was a kid......and probly a quarter or somethin when some of you old farts were goin!

Glen cambell was not a good actor plus that girl was just flat out annoying.
If the new one puts a darker edge to it it might be really good.
I do agree the duke cant be remade.

I have had a chance to see the new True Grit movie and it is something special. It is not the same as the original. The Coen Bros went off of the book and did their own interpretation. They did not just remake the original movie. So if you go into it open minded and not try to compare it to something it is not, I think you will enjoy it greatly.

I watched the trailer. I will definitely go see it. I liked the old westerns but many seemed to lack a grittyness that it takes to make the situation seem real. Of course, they are movies from a different time and style of cinema. I hope the remake some more. Now, Ben Afflack as the Outlaw Josey Wales and I would probably hang myself.
