A little more polishing needed to remove the swirl marks and some haze, but she's close.
Plan is to get her back on the trailer tomorrow and remount the motor.

The pods (they are also called sponsons or pontoons) do two things other than act as steps:
                  1) They add floatation to the rear of the hull when the boat is at rest and not on plane. This helps offset the weight of bigger motors on light hulls.
                  2) They act as a fixed trim tab to aid in getting the boat on plane faster and, if done right, are completely out of the water when the hull is on plane.

Additionally they can be modified to direct water over the prop more efficiently for shallow water running and jet drives on outboards.

well that sounds like something i need to do to my boat. I have a 25 horse on my 12 foot boat and its heavy for my little boat. How do i go about finding someone to weld on pontoons that can do it right to get all the added benefits you mentioned…?

You can buy the sponsons from Cabelas or Bass Pro and either bolt them on or find someone who can weld aluminum to weld them on for you.

There are several people on TBH who can weld aluminum, just post a topic to find one in your area.

Looks great! I've polished aluminum to mirror shine like that on 2-inch wide flat bar for pot racks, but that boat has tons of area. Huge amount of work; looking really nice!
