this is why your a hunter using a bow and not a bowhunter, your not going to get it. but this is part of the problem with the crossbow in archery only season. the user of the crossbows dedication to the sport....not the love but the dedication, there is a diffrence. i love golf, and dirtbikes but i don't have the dedication or desire to practice them like i do with my bow. how many arrows do you shoot daily/weekly/or even monthly? and there is a huge difference between drawing a bow and pulling up an already cocked locked and ready to rock crossbow. namely amount of movement, and the ever present back draw. then there is the hold when your prey moves. most bowhunters can go on with this list. besides if someone wants to use a crossbow in archery season they can...they just need a prescription from there dr.

I'm impressed Gary...counting who would of thought you had in ya!

Good arguments on both sides. I don't think I'll be going out and buying an X-bow anytime soon though. I'll just stick with my DXT and AR 31. Besides, if you shot a P & Y deer with an X-bow, P & Y won't accept it just like it was in a high fence..right MC?

I think rifles that use primers and power should be limited to killing deer less than 50 yards. Anything beyond 50 yards really isn't fair to the deer. How would they know a bullet is headed their way from over 300 yards?

While there may not be a logical argument against the use of crossbows during the archery season, since TPWD eliminated the minimum draw weight on bows, there is definately no logical argument FOR the use of crossbows by an able bodied hunter.
At what point do we stop being tolerant to "legal means"?
At some point we have to draw the line, and without a legitimate argument for, why should they(crossbows) be allowed?
We've already agreed that it won't produce very much extra income for Texas, and the #'s of crossbow sales won't increase dramatically,so why?

I honestly don’t know that we should draw a line, for to do so means someone who is a hunter or at least a potential hunter would remain on the other side. Personally, I was never in favor of the archery only season, feeling that it unnecessarily drove a wedge between hunters that didn’t need to be divided. I would not be bothered if the season was one again, I hunt the way I choose and so should everyone else. I rarely use a firearm for hunting and see no reason to change now.

As for new blood, I do think that initially there would be a surge of new crossbow hunters just as there was in ’75; some may stay and pick up a compound, others will go back to the gun and a few will become dedicated crossbow hunters…. The key word here is “HUNTER”. Some may feel that their “WAY” is the only true way and anyone who hunts otherwise is less than a “REAL HUNTER” but I don’t see it that way.. Each person who takes to the field, regardless of their weapon is a hunter and as such is worthy of my support until they prove otherwise…

I have another question about this that maybe someone can answer:
With a 60 + day regular season, where any legal weapon is..well.. legal, why do hunters keep trying to encroach on the archery season that was established long ago expressly for bowhunting?
I bowhunt exclusively, and did not realize it was that hard to harvest the # of deer allowed with firearms, and 60 days is alot of time. 8 weekends, 16 days to kill deer with a firearm if just weekends were allowed.
16 days is the whole firearm season in a lot of states.

Without meaning to be glib... for the same reason some want a private archery season..

Do you not think that by opening the established archery-only season to any weapon we would eliminate a lot of bowhunters?

Man if the anti's are reading this and you know they are... They are copying and pasting as fast as they can, just to use the statements and name calling that has gone on in this type of thread against the hunter at a later date and time....

Just curious again who started this type of thread...Knowing what kind of post it would recieve... Because it sure has made a lot of folks call people they dont even know bad names....

I think that we would lose a few mostly those whose only reason for using a bow is to get the jump on the season.. But are they really bow hunters or merely hunters who also use a bow..

For the most part, it has been a good discussion, with the exception of your reprimands.

We are all hunters and should support one another, but at the same time, bowhunters worked hard to establish a bowhunting only season, and we as bowhunters should work towards maintaining this season, without dilution.

But not all bow hunters wanted the segregation, I think most would have been happy to have the extra days.. I know I was.. In fact I've never looked at it as a seperate season... even when it was split by the week of no hunting.

I don’t see that allowing the cross “BOW” in to the bow season is dilution but rather a swelling of the ranks…

Thanks for praising my dedication to the entire sport of hunting. I'm as dedicated as anyone to this sport. It's not just what's best for a few. By the way just because you think you're better than most doesnt mean you are. I've killed several p&y class bucks, does that make me better than you? No. You dont get to judge who's worthy or not. You're no different than any other hunter.

I see you've only been around for a couple of months. Many people will vouch for my dedication to bowhunting since you think you know what I'm about.

I have simply attempted to get other hunters to think before they comment.... I refuse to give my adversary any ammo if I can keep from it. And if for one second you and any others on this site believe that there are no anti's as TBH members then I know of some swamp land for sale in Az....

I agree with healthy conversation and debates but this type of thread has been injected and re-injected into the eyes of the TBH community many times... But Why??? Maybe because an anti that is a "sleeper" continues to do so because of the comments it brings out....

Just trying to get folks to think before they post...
