I'm still relatively new to the sport, but when I stop in a new (to me) archery shop I might make a small request or a small purchase to try and get a feel for the shop before I commit to a major purchase or let them handle my bow.

I'm happy to pay for knowledge and service but I'd like to avoid getting into a major problem like a few of you have described here. A sign like that would be a quick indicator to let me know I didn't need to patronize that business.

I've shot at their range and had them tune up my bow. They were friendly and reasonable. I would use them again.

How much do they actually charge to cut arrows?

He charged me $5 and some change for 6 arrows and 4 field tips. I brought the inserts.

All you have to do is search on R&C and see that he has not changed in 20+ years. In 2003 when i bought my black max2 he was good as gold because i apent 1500+ in his shop. A month later took my backup bow which also was bought in his shop in for tuneup and he acted like a jackwad and said yea you bought a new mathews from me but wont be spending that kind of money for a while so i will get to your backup bow when i get ready to in a week or so. Took it from him and have not bought from him since

I asked if he would cut us a good deal since we were making a large purchase.

His exact answer was, " Why the F--- would I cut you a deal. you are going to buy them anyway". I said ,"because we don't have to buy them here". He said,"YEAH? Where else you gonna get this bow?". We left. I drove past there a couple years ago and saw the building empty. Made me smile.
This place wasn't in Arlington, was it?

Didn't CCR have a guy like this at one time? I haven't seen him in awhile. Maybe they sent him packing? As far as not cutting the arrows because they were bought somewhere else is foolish. He had a chance to add a customer now he is PO'd and telling it to the entire state of Texas.

I would have been embarrassed to go into a store and ask them to work on something I had just saved a dollar on buying it somewhwere else.
Yes you are the only one.

                        That's ole Roy.
It's mind blowing how arrogant he can be. It's amazing....
I gave him the benefit of the doubt for a lot of years and kept going there. I could tell a story about 90% of the visits I made to that place. Most are unpleasant. I spent a bunch of money in that shop over the years. Finally I had enough. I will never darken the door again. Ever.

                          Pretty dumb business practices.

I drive almost an hour and a half to my bow tech. CCR is closer and they are **** good. But when you have a good rapport with someone it makes the drive worth it. It's not like I need a tech every week...
Now that I think of it, it's time for a new string/cable. Heck, it's been a year!! (I like changing colors and getting a great tune!!)

                            Hi Rocky!!

I think you are not comprehending. Arrows are stand alone items. He bought the arrows elsewhere. He was willing to pay for the guys cutting service using the shop's inserts. Now if he brought in his own inserts and his own glue and wanted a discount on the cutting and assembly fee, then you might have a similar analogy.

                              .
