That’ll work!! I don’t think color mattered!! The Tyler just sits on the surface and the halco you just reel about as fast as you can it seemed!!

Miket you have plenty there. Just don’t be shy if for some reason you ain’t hooking up just stand around the Capt. Also don’t be shy to run chunk and ask them how to do it. Grab a live flyer and send out on hook. Fish will be caught. Talked to Matt the other day and tuna been thick

Question for the experienced tuna fishermen: What is a good rod and reel set-up for this trip and what line should be spooled?

You'll be good with that. Glen gave some good advice!

I’m counting down the days! This is my first tuna trip so I don’t know what I’m doing but I’ve read all the old tbh trip posts and gear recommendations so I think I’ve got a good start on my tackle. We’ll see. I took my mxl raptor off a surf rod and then just got a lx raptor that I need to spool up this week.

they’ll have conventional rods on the boat you can jig or drop chunk with but if you want to cast lures your gonna want a big spinner reel. There were lots of Penn Slammer 3 and 4s spooled up with 50-65lb braid. I got a Van Stall and a Diawa Protese after the first trip for casting! There’s folks that can chime in on ocean perch combos a lot better than me though.

Thank you very much. That is the information that I was looking for.

Last year I used a Penn Fierce IV with a stiff rod spooled with 60# braid casting Halco 130s. Caught more than my share of tuna with no trouble.
The most important thing is for the reel to have a strong smooth drag, other than that it just holds the line.
Deckhand called it my redfish rod. I couldn't fish my conventional outfit, as I hurt my left shoulder from a fall on the way out.

I am going on the Oct. 6th trip this year, so won't be with the gang this time.

The A-Team is ready to go. We depart Oct 7th. Going to miss the OG crew, but we had scheduling conflicts as well and weren't going to miss a year. I'll have to flip a coin to figure what I'm going to throw second. I'll start off with a popper for that explosive topwater bite. Hopefully we have a repeat of last year!
