You can pay them to clean the fish. Tuna are super easy. Just 4 loins. A 100# fish takes me about 5 minutes. Plus I don’t let it touch water.
as far as lures. Halco catch fish but never know what color. Same with flyers. The sure way to get your line tight is catch a live flyer with a net and drift it out.Last edited by glen; 07-20-2024, 12:04 PM.

This trip looks like a great moon phase also. Screw deer hunting opening weekend. I'd give up opening weekend every year to replace with this fishing trip. They do not compare at all.

The only disclaimer is you better have sea legs if it's rough offshore. If you think you want to do one of these trips then book a 4 or 8 hour trip as a test (if you've never been offshore). Then do not hesitate to join in next year!
My son is going this year. I have too much happening plus my sea legs are not what they used to be. But I plan on being at the docks waiting when the boat comes in on Sunday!

The patch, when properly will flat out take care of the motion sickness and it's good for at least 2 days. It's a prescription medication, but your doc can prescribe it. Just tell the Doc you need at least 3... Put one behind the ear a full 24 hours to 36 hours before the planned departure, and start to hydrate really well... (Trans-Derm-Sop) scopolimine... not sure on the spelling, but that's it... "the patch"... When I had my offshore boat, I had a regular fishing buddy that, no matter what, he got sick... Seen it calm enough we could run offshore at 45-50 mph, hook up to a rig or drift, he'd be chumming within 15 minutes until we started running again... Got the patch, and never had a problem again after a misapplication the firs time out... He put the patch behind his ear with the wrong side facing his skin!!The real trick is, put it on WELL in advance of your trip... The morning you leave, even the night before won't give you the protection you need... Minimum 24 hours in advance... This trip is long enough that half way through the trip, apply a second one to the other ear and remove the first one. In my later years, I've had "issues" with motion sickness and this procedure works well for me.

Yall are making me nervous. I've never been seasick, and for the first few years of party boats etc didn't take dramamine. Last 6-8yrs I have been taking it just as a precaution. I have been out 40-60mi in a 36' boat 6-8 times and been fine. Should I be worried? Seems like 100' should be much smoother

I will be borrowing a good rod/reel for this trip from an experienced ( and gracious ) guy, but do want to see what yall think of me using my Shimano TLD20. I used this when I was going on party boats, will need another rod though.
For casting I am looking at Shimano Spheros 14000 on maybe an ugly stick. This was mentioned here somewhere. That should cover jigging and casting I guess.
I also need to pull my weight when it comes to lures. Looking at Halco Max 130 and Shimano Flash Boost. Have no idea which colors I should go with.
Any ideas or help appreciated
I could go up in quality with Avet, as long as I can cast with it, but have never used one and am unfamiliar with models. Basically if I bought a good reel I would need it to do everything I need ( unlike the TLD20, which you can't cast )

Mike, I went last year and borrowed gear from a dear friend who normally goes on this trip, but could not go at the last minute because of illness in the family. I'd say you could go and use just the boat's gear without issue. The deck hands will do everything for you regarding line, knots, terminal tackle, etc. They don't provide casting lures, but in normal trips, most fish are actually caught "chunking"... using a piece of blackfin or bonito as cut bait on big open face (Avet style) reels... You could pick up some lures at Tackle unlimited or on line if you wanted to and the deck hands will rig it for you.
Also, I'd go ahead and get the patch script just to be safe. That's what I have been doing since right after I sold my offshore boat any time I have gone offshore. Be a dang shame to spend all that time and money, go 200 miles out in the GoM and be miserable when a tiny patch for less than 20 bucks could have prevented it...
