Why didn’t they go ahead and make it catch and release. It’s coming. Might as well get it over with. Exempt non English speaking or illegal alien fishermen like they do now. No size or number limit for them.

LOL, I was wondering when someone would bring this up. I’m no hypocrite, when we could legally keep 10 I kept 10 (when I could catch ‘em). I learned eventually it’s hard to eat that many fish. I have found I enjoy fishing regardless of how many I filet.
so like I said, I’m fine with the reduced limits.

The hunting and fishing stories he hears, of the good old days, from me and my old buddies, are hard for him to comprehend because of the drastic changes that have happened in the last 40 years..
But then I look at old black and white photos of my dad before I was born and listene to his stories of walking from our river house to East Bay after hurricane Carla. The ducks, the fish and NO PEOPLE
We spent nearly every weekend down there in the summer and even fished, there wasn't a crowd. The harbor didn't exist. And people didn't run you over or cut your wade off.
Those are my good ol days and I'm glad to have experienced them

Well I still catch about the same number of trout I caught 35 years ago. I’ll still keep and eat a few and if I have people coming in ill
have my wife ride with me and we can keep 6. I’m fortunate and have zero travel time. I kept 2 tonight.
This will hurt the coastal communities hotel/ and other economic impactLast edited by glen; 01-25-2024, 06:53 PM.

Used to go and stay for a week each month of may june july august and Sept. I quit going when they reduced the limit due to the hard freeze. Me and the wife we excited to start going again that the reduced limit expired..... now they reduced the limit again. This time it won't expire. Can't run offshore for a couple snapper on the few calm days they have during season and can't catch but a few trout... I can't be the only one going less.

I can't see how it does anything but help the fishery. I've fished the salt for 15-20 years and it's nothing like the stories I hear of the 80's-90's. While I do catch plenty of fish, it would be nice to see it like before.
The guides arent going to slow down any. (Well maybe some, but not the majority) if a guide can't get customers its not because the state took 2 measly fish off the limit.
(In response to an earlier reply)
I don't kill any less ducks now than I ever had.
(Admittedly I don't duck hunt a lot, never did)
deer hunting in the 3 different areas i hunt is better or the same as its been in 20+ years. One place in particular hardly had a deer population 25 years ago, I saw 16 in one sit this year.
salt water Fishing hasnt changed much for me, so I can't see this doing anything but helping. Fresh water fishing is better everywhere. (Not near as many bass being kept I believe is a big part of the reason for that.)
Can't speak much on beer joints

Texas who had to go and get a real job after they reduced the limit to three a couple years ago, because, low and behold, people like to catch a mess of fish. He was one of the ones who pushed for it last time, and he was all over Facebook crying that he wasn't booked.

WELL, i understand that we need to save the species so they dont all just up and die off from the new desalination plant in corpus christi harbor at 889 million dollars, which will allow more industry to dump toxic byproducts into the local waters, but at least we have a lower limit on trout. Sad, When i retire in 5 years, the best may be over for the corpus area. any fish in the hill country ??
I know that last year i went with a guide on 2 trips and came home with 2 reds, 4 black drum and 2 trout total. HEB lets me limit out each trip.

A lot of people will disagree with my next statement, but you cannot decimate a fish population with hook and line(recreational)
NETS …yes
its more about habitat loss, pollution, freshwater inflows and the list goes on
TP&W has NO contingency plan, so blame the weekend warriors
TP&W means and methods of gathering data is hogwash, and whoever greases their pocket gets the vote
