Only because of a tagging system. I am all for a tagging system for certain species of fish. A daily limit does very little to limit the harvest when a guy can keep 3/day from his dock or boat in the slip. As stated above, they can bring another along for a second limit. The possession limit does not apply to his residence. No one can say it can’t be done because they do it for oversized reds. Tags can be optional and free on your annual license. TP&W really needs to determine their real purpose, but they seem to be limiting opportunities and not resources and pretending that they are doing good.

If TPWD wanted to get serious about preserving the trout population they would issue dolphin tags. How many trout do they eat?

So are they still going to turn a blind eye to the asian folks who don't know or care what size and bag limits are? You can hate if you want, but walk out on a jetty or rock groin and tell me I'm wrong.

Too much work for the squirrel sheriff to track them down if he writes them a ticket when they don’t pay. They are exempt from bag and size limits.

                NETS …yes
its more about habitat loss, pollution, freshwater inflows and the list goes on
TP&W has NO contingency plan, so blame the weekend warriors
TP&W means and methods of gathering data is hogwash, and whoever greases their pocket gets the vote
This! We went to 10 to save the trout, Then 5 to save the trout, Then 3 to save the trout. Catch and release is next.

Until they focus on the real impactors they just gonna keep kicking the recreational fisherman.

Has anyone read the stock assessment data that led to this?

I agree with dolphin tags saving more trout than some other type of tag system. No thanks to the tag system like they have in Washington for salmon or halibut. Once your tags are filled you can’t fish catch and release there. Matter fact they can’t fish in certain waters that hold those species except on certain days.

I figure they will end up making an outlaw out of an honest man. If I go out and plan on eating fish for dinner I could care less what anyone says.

it’s like red snapper- A rec angler can’t keep a couple for the table but I can walk in HEB and buy them. Explain that one

We used to fish sea wolf park pier after work back in the day. Literally catch 12" trout 2 at a time as long as you wanted to stand there. One night momma-san came up to me and another guy and asked us to put our fish in a bucket. Id throw the occasional sandy in there and she would hoot and holler at the specs going back in the water.

American Alligators and Alligator Gar, are two species that should be re evaluated. There’s no population problem with them. I agree on Dolphins too but no way in hell they would ever allow the harvest of FLIPPER and dare say green sea turtles.

Texas State agencies have become way too beholden to politicians and industry.

It would sure be nice to have heads of Agencies fight for the common folk…not kissing big monies bASS.

Snapper issues are with the Feds, not the state.

Greenhead- State closed waters for snapper and just opened in January- if you play the offshore game you know calm days during cold months are more in Nov-Dec. Jan-March is usually rougher. So it’s not just the Feds when you talk snapper mismanagement and commercial lobbyist in the fishing industry

I guess I’m going to have to start fresh water lake fishing now.

Don’t disagree on the commercial aspect, but the Feds set the rules.
