Grayson I am correct to assume that you assume most ranches in south texas with high fences are between 50 and 300 acres, you said that many times, and that is what makes it "easy". I wonder how many big deer north texas would be shoot every year if the average age of a harvested buck was 5.5 instead of 2.5. I am not sure on those numbers but would guess the average buck in south texas killed was 5.5 and north texas 2.5. Am I way off with that number. Protein helps but age is the biggest factor in seeing big bucks and yes the fence helps control the overall age structure of your herd. I get almost as excited passing a 3.5 or 4.5 in the 60's that I do shooting a mature deer. It is nice to have a management plan in place and not have to worry about what your 8 neighboors on 50 acres tracts are doing. Also due to the extreme weather conditions of south texas, 105 degree days all long and 17-24 inches of rain a year i bet mother nature takes a lot more deer in south texas than she does in north texas. Last but not least if deer densities was the answer for big bucks, the hill country did not get that memo.

On a side note I do agree that with a low fence you have an element of unknown every time you go out on what you might see, but so do the neighbors and you have to hope they dont shoot the one you passed yesterday.
Huh what? No, what I was saying is that aireoneout is speculating that all the 50-300 acre parcels in North Texas will one day all be high fenced, like parts of South Texas. Like I said I've hunted S Tx many times and I'm well aware that most of the places that are fenced down there are very large. Heck, I can only think of 4-5 hunted or huntable places in Grayson County that are larger than 500 acres. Most are under 100. And yes, you are off on the age.
And where I disagree with him is that big bucks in north Texas don't just reside in Grayson county
That's not my position, in one of my first posts I said North Central Texas, extending to the Panhandle, could compete **per capita** with S Tx. By no means did I intend this to be a Grayson-South Texas debate.
Hagerman is the only reason Grayson County is on the map. Most all the big deer from Grayson come from Hagerman or within 5-10 miles of it. Truth.
Not true at all. I suspect you haven't ever even been here, other than just passing through, and even if you had, you wouldn't have a clue of what's killed where. You'd be shocked if you knew.
Grayson, I am a little confused. You are talking about hunting North Texas and how good the whitetail are without high fences etc. Yet you have "South Texas where the big deer are" posted on your hunt location in your profile. Is that contradicting yourself or are you being sarcastic?
Shout-out to my S Tx friends.
Last question for all, if there was a draw hunt and you were drawn and had a choice to hunt the hagerman or the king ranch what would you choose?
18 years.....that's a LOT of time spent in the stand with nothing to show for the effort. I need an easy hunt now and then...I'd take the King!

That weed can grow big deer. Looks like the triangle is meant for funneling the drugs and illegals to cotulla and then up the interstate to the rest of the state.

South Texas is without a doubt in a class of it's own when it comes to trophy whitetails because of range conditions, genetics and TONS of land to grow 'em on. They just take it to a whole nother level cuz they can. You will always see monsters killed in east Texas every year (just as big as south Texas giants) but obviously not near the numbers as south Texas produces. That will never happen because of the mentality and the lack of desire.

A good buddy of mine lives in Van Alstyne. Over the years he has told me of some huge bucks that have been killed in the area by friends of his and they do not like to broadcast the news. Most hunters up that way seem to have this mentality. Heck, I would be the same way since most places up that way are small parcels of land and all low fence.

Once again Counselor I never said "all", just that in the next 90 years to finish out this millennium there would be more places fenced in North Tx than you would care to admit.

I thought the "Golden Triangle" was a nickname for Southeast Texas.

Pow - it's a sort of verbal exclamation point. Do a you tube search for Step Brothers Pow.

I can't believe how many people haven't seen that movie. Greatness!

                            Now...back to the contest.

I don't understand what you Yanks are trying to say is your argument. You all agree that per capita The South has more big bucks, the largest "score wise" bucks % based have come from the South, and the largest for that matter. Being there are more acres per man down South it is deducted there is less hunting pressure.

I fail to see where the argument that the North is the premier hunting spot in Texas. Follow the money, leases costs on the whole more in South Texas than anywhere else in the State. There is a reason it costs more.

On the HF issue, that is invalid. Percentage wise, acreage for acreage the percent high to low across the entire state is marginal and no one could truly put a real number on that.

So if the prosecution can come forward with any evidence other than speculation the defense would like to move that the judge and Jury dismiss this measuring contest on the fact that the prosecution has brought no substantial evidence to the case.

At this time the defense would also like to congratulate the North on all of their kills as a trophy is a trophy no matter where it is killed. Seriously. No one should discredit that.

                              Your honor, the defense rests.

I fail to see where anybody has made that statement, insinuated that statement, or tried to prove that statement as a fact. Maybe I just overlooked it on accident
