Of the people I know hunting at least 150-200 acres, most of them see a 160 every year or maybe every other year. That's Grayson County. Out west of here, our lease is 3000 acres and we've seen two 160+ deer this year and a few others in the 150 range. I don't really want to talk numbers but it's much cheaper than the number you threw out for South Texas. But you have to understand the bowhunting up here (esp. Grayson) is much harder than south Texas (I've hunted S Tx numerous times) hence the reason I've been hunting here 18 years and have one buck over 160. Archery kill, in an archery-only county. But then again it's been a one buck county for most of that time and I'm usually hunting for 180's, not 160's, or hunting one specific buck with unique characteristics.

Man, I give you mad props that you have hunted 18 years passing on numerous 150's year after year to kill only 1` buck in the 60's.... and you decide to skip the 170's and go straight to the 180's. So that means you are passing 170's too? I mean, if there is a 160 on every 150-200 acres and your passing 150's every year... surely there a bunch of 170's running around! Only makes sense! I just wish I could pass 150's year after year for 18 years waiting on a 180... thats just awesome! Congrats to you.... There are alot of people who have never shot a 150 with a gun or a bow and your passing them year after year for the last 18 years! you have some serious will power my friend!

Mitch he is not lying about the deer in this county. Look at my avatar. That is a yearling. He is not even 2. That pic was taken 2years ago. Can you imagine what he looks like now?

If you want to see a really great Grayson county buck get Grayson to show you his or his dads. Great bucks anyone would be proud of.

I know that Grayson has killed a STUD! It's way bigger than anything I'll ever kill.... thats not the point nor the debate of this!

And im still sorry that the thread has been way highjacked but the original poster must be getting some laughs from all of this so i'll carry on...

Roamer, Thats a heck of a 2 year old from 2 years ago... so what does he look like now? Can you post a picture of the buck you shot the year you got a picture of that 2 year old? It's bound to be a monster... Grayson passes 150's every year waiting on a 180! If your hunting in Grayson Co. I hope you dont do the same and can post a pic of the 150+ that you laid the smack down on... Lets see it! I bet its a beauty! I'd love to hunt North Texas but I dont think the chances at a 150+ are as likely as Grayson likes to argue! Its Mexico or KS for me

I'm just glad the golden triangle stops exactly at the rio grande... otherwise, we'd NEVER hear the end about how good mexico is!

Yea, but do they give buckles in Kansas. You're luck too in that you don't have to buy a TX hunting license.

Why do you think you couldn't get a place to hunt up here?

The buck I killed isn't in the 160's, he's well over that----and he was well worth the wait. I don't have a 160, a 170, or a 180. Not even a 190. But I do have a 210. And I think you're smart enough to understand what I mean, and to understand that "numerous 150's" doesn't mean "bunch of 170's." There are 150's running around, and a handful of bigger deer every year. Sometimes the 150's blow up into bigger deer, and sometimes they don't. Either way, we try to give them enough years to do it. We just choose not to fence them in, which makes them a heck of a lot harder to kill. I'd rather have a 210 and a couple of 180's than a bunch of 3.5-4.5 year old 150's/160's. Does that make me stupid? Maybe, in your eyes. In mine it makes me a more mature hunter, and thankfully I'm my strictest hunting critic.

I bought a house in the projects last week.... $4500! Turned the electricity on and got it put in my name! In 6 months im a resident I'll buy a lifetime license and sell the BOX for the next TX guy that wants a life time KS license.... we can just cont. to share the wealth of not spending $400 a year to hunt KS

                  Who wants the house next?

Every year more and more places are going that route. Why? You basically said it. Because of the almighty $$$$. It shouldn't be that way but it is.

You mention the Waggoner Ranch, 535,000ac. Not much need to HF a place that big, kind of like the King. Like mitch said, I would be very interested to know how many 150+ deer they produce per/say 1000ac. Just looking at their website they are more interested in cattle, horses, farming and oil, not one mention of deer on their website. I'm sorry but South Tx. is just made for producing bigger deer, not cattle. It appears that the area where the Waggoner is located is a lot more open country and farmland, much more condusive to producing cattle rather than deer. Open country equals more grazing opportunity during the summer months and the farmland equals more available feed throughout the year and even wheat grazing throughout the winter. Therefore decreasing the total cost per head of cattle vs. so. tx, which is why the majority of the landowners rely on leasing their property for hunting and are able to get top dollar for it because of what the property is capable of producing. Just one of those topics that we are going to have to agree to disagree on.

Do you really think everyone up here in my neck of the woods is going to fence their 50-300 acre farm? Really?

I wonder what south Texas would produce without the fences and make it bow only. Isn't Grayson county bow only? I would put my money on south texas everyday of the week. The high protein natural browse and genetics would be hard to beat. The native browse has higher protein than what I feed out of a sack.

I dont think anyone called you Stupid... nor do I think you have a couple of 180's to go with that 210!

I know exactly how big your Biggest deer is.... I just thought maybe you had actually killed a few big deer prior to getting extremely lucky! HOW LUCKY? Im not exactly sure but that buck may have more inches than you hunt/farm acres Really? So what happend? You had hunted for a 200 your entire life just waiting to grow one or it flooded the Hagerman and you got lucky as the dickens when not only one but 2 monsters had to seak safety from the flood on your 200 acres and you and your Dad killed them...

Im no hater bc I'd do the same thing and be really proud of being LUCKY! Heck Im LUCKY i found my buck this year....But im not lucky that he was on my ranch! We consistantly grow them...

I will cont. to say i'd rather be lucky and kill a 210 on a 200 acre farm than grow one in a pen and shoot it bc I have enough money to buy it! Congrats on your buck... I have actually never seen it although I knew about it, post up a picture or copy the link and post it so I can see what a 210" NTX Monster looks like.....

Can't post below this on my phone so have to go up here.

No, I don't have a couple of 180's. But that's what I'm waiting on, and I am confident I'll get them. I've seen enough big deer around to have that confidence. Also, the flood had no effect whatsoever on our bucks, despite what you and your buddy Brezina think. Literally the entire county flooded that year. We didn't get lucky on either buck, but especially not my dad's. He was a 150-160 the year before and we passed him. I guess the only "luck" would be that he added so many inches, but that's the reason we continue to pass so many of that type of deer.
