i think a lot of the people that are dissapointed in it can not let go of the original. they are not trying to remake the original. the cohen bros are taking a book and doing there interpretation of it.

Just got back, followed the book better than the first one and Bridges did a good job. The girl was GREAT and Damon held his own (Better than Glen Campbell ever did).
For die hard John Wayne fans it'll be dissapointing but the Coen brothers made a great movie.
Better than the original in my book...

Saw it last night with the Family ,It was Good but would have been better if we had not watched the original the night before....The Girl (Maddie) MADE that movie she was Hillarious..Matt Damon was good and Jeff Bridges had a lot to live up too, but he did a good job...Nobody can Replace the Duke tho

Just got back from the show.
Like I said before, we watched the original again the other night to be able to compare.
I really liked that in most all of the important scenes they maintained the script word for word.
The location of scenes were more realistic than the original, but I'm not sure if that added or detracted from the movie.
The actors performed well, and while I don't think Bridges did the part justice, I think that is just me comparing him to the Duke and Bridges doesn't come close.
The girl was great and Damon held his own, I truly think the girl (Haile Steinfeld) did an awesome job and will have a future in movies.
I liked the soundtrack and most of the cinematography, I personally felt they could have left the snake scene out completely!!!!!
It is worth watching in my book, and I agree with a previous post......it was nice to be at a movie without all the sagging pants crowd.

My wife & I saw it night before last in Pleasanton. I thought it was an excellent western and very realistic, not Hollywoodish. It did not seem to be a Coen brothers film but a very well made remake. The cabin scene was 100 o/o Coen brothers and that is what I was waiting for. The debate/ bartering scene with period diologue was excellent (like Deadwood not over done). I found the hanging scene very interesting- the whole crowd gasped.....then applauded. The new actress who played Mattie should win the Acadamy award in my bbok. Jeff Bridges surprised me and did an outstanding job playing a old drunk sherrif and not John Wayne. He growled thru the whole movie. I hope I never see Matt Damon in a western again and Josh Brolin went way over the top to me. The filming was excellent , the night scenes were perfect. I came away wanting to see it again and I want to buy the DVD wen it comes out. I give it 4.5 broadheads!
