I watched the original again after about 20 years. I kept hoping someone would shoot Glen Campbell...or maybe just a rogue Comanche would swoop in and cut out his tongue.

Looking forward to seeing the remake.

Saw it.....liked it!!!!!. The young girl was outstanding. Loved the dialogue....I thought Bridges played Cogburn very well....

          I thought it was amazing.
The Coen's stamped that entire film with AMAZNG cinematography. The lighting and different shot angles in that movie were really great.

And sorry to say, that Jeff Bridges NAILED it. No one could have covered that role better than him.
I actually think that everyone nailed that performance.

I know the original will always prevail, but as far as a remake, they nailed it.

I saw it last night. I've gotta say I was mildly dissappointed. Was more of a comedy than a shoot em' up Western. Jeff Bridges performance may have salvaged this lackluster attempt at a remake though. He was great.

Heck No. The Duke can't be duplicated. Just like the Searchers, anyone tries to duplicate that is wasting their time and money.

I'm gonna try and see it tomorrow.

I have a feeling this is what I'll find. Coen camera work always gets my attention.

                    Crossing my fingers.

my wife decided she wants us to go see it early Christmas eve. For her growing up the holidays always meant trips to the movies so I agreed to see this one with her. I watched the original last night again....gonna be hard to beat.

The camera work WAS phenominal! Particularly the shots where Rooster is carrying a snake bit Maddie Ross across an open field at night. And the shootout scene at the end.

Ok guys... granted "The Duke can't be duplicated..."

Frankly, I don't think that was the point of this remake.

In True Grit, John Wayne portrayed a character name Rooster Cogburn.

In True Grit, Jefff Bridges portrayed a character named Rooster Cogburn.

This version was in no way, shape or form, a movie where Jeff Bridges portrayed a character named John Wayne.... in fact, John Wayne wasn't even the typical John Wayne in True Grit.

I think both actors did an excellent job. And kudos to the Coen Brothers, for sticking to the book, while remaining fairly true to the original movie... and rescuing the character nearly destroyed by Kim Darby.

                          I give it

Saw it last night with my boys.

                            The young girl was great.
                            Great camera work.
Great acting - maybe over done at times.

I really want to see the original again for comparison.

Might even have to watch Rooster Cogburn also....

For those who have seen it. Have you ever heard anyone speak the way these guys did? EX: "you are not La'bief", or the repeated "I do not know him". Or the way that man with the bear hide on spoke. If you've seen it you probably know what i'm talking about. Just curious if anyone else caught that. It cracked me up.
