Travis, To make a change in the policies of the LSBA or to voice your opinion the clearest is to join and become a member. As a member you will have the greatest vote and chance to make a change. This forum has been one of the best I have seen in a while, because it has been civil. Emotions can run high on any debate but the crossbow has brought forth many hearts out on folks sleeves. I can assure you the LSBA is not anti-crossbow, they just feel crossbows do not belong in the "special archery season". A group of individuals worked hard with TPW many years ago to achieve this special season for the bowhunters to be able to hunt before the rifle season started. I hope that you will join the LSBA because having as many individuals involved the better it will be for all.....

Just curious, i try not to give an openion on things I know very little of. So how many here regardless of how you voted have shot a crossbow in the last three years. I keep hearing it referd to as a gun wich is soooo far off the mark that it leads me to belive many have not tried to hit somthing at 40 yards with one. I still stand by my statment that I can out score any crossbow at 40, 50, 60, even 70 yards with my compound. So lets hear how many have any first hand knowledge of their use and performance. State the brand and distance shot as well as the accuracy. Not what you have heard, read or seen, but what you have done.

Well stated I picked up bowhunting to add 4 weeks to my season. To some this may make me a bad non caring hunter but I do not think that i am alone saying that. Picking up a compound bow and beginning bowhunting is a cumbersomb (spelling) thing to some. We are very menacing as a group of stalking crazed vigilantes w/ sticks and strings. . and i'm proud to be one.
Will hunters in the future have to learn to bowhunt in order to extend their season or will they just be able to pick-up an x-bow for a few weeks a year? I don't claim to know, "I don't practice Santeria, I ain't got no crystal ball" as the song goes but I'm not willing to gamble with the future of our sport.
At any rate, glad to have you as both a bowhunter and an LSBA member, every voice counts.
Thanks for posting the information, Devin. I am a little disappointed to report that after more than a week since I first sent e-mails and messages to each on the committee, I have not recieved a single phone call or reply from anyone on this committee. Very disheartening...but I did manage to visit in depth with a couple of their aids today.
I've been thinking...pool is a challenging game...too challenging for me. Can we put four extra pockets on the table and make them all bigger?

If crossbows had been legal during the archery season then, would either of you have ever gone to a compound bow?
Now I gotta run to baseball practice....
Don't get post happy while I'm gone, Joey.

I personally don't feel one way or the other concerning the x bow.........but I AM AGAINST having a 40 lb draw weight limit on ANY Bow whether it's a compound or recurve or a long bow.
I've said it once and I'll say it again----I shot my first deer with a 29lb recurve and a Bear Razorhead in 1960 at 9 years old.
Under the proper supervision, with the proper training/education, and hunting for certain game animals we all know that it's not kinetic energy or poundage that makes for a clean kill but a RAZOR SHARP BROADHEAD and SHOT PLACEMENT.
As with all hunters, gun and bow alike, poor shots are made and age - I believe- has just a 'little' do with it. It's the desire, the practice, the instruction, the experience that we all aspire to no matter how young so I feel it's wrong to limit the desire of young people just because they can't draw 40 lbs. That's bull hockey. Desire and the will to succeed will make them good hunters. (Along with all that cool parental support).
Now that I've said it continue on about crossbows!

Compounds are often called training wheels...
Some just see a big difference between the compound and the crossbow that you don't.
Gotta go watch Dora.Last edited by tinman; 03-15-2007, 05:14 PM.

If you ask this question on LSBA web site I am sure you would get a close to 100% "NO" vote..... If you ask it on TBH it appears safe to assume a 66% "NO" vote...... if you post on a "Deer Hunting" web site you would probably get 100% "YES" vote.... the sad part is this effects all the bow hunters hard fought and well deserved archery season..... as much as I am opposed to allowing X-bows into archery season.... I would imagine all "Bow Hunters" will lose this fight next Tuesday. This will be the beginning of the end of special archery season. I would bet with in 3 years of this change that it will become All General Season.... it a dang shame too.

Big Bill I have shot x-bows and agree with you most of the a-class compound guys can out shoot them. My only experance with X-bow hunters was a group of customers that came down from Wyoming to hunt hogs on our company lease. 2 of them had cross bows. I agree with you they were no more accurate at 100 yards than a compound but they had scopes with 5 or 6 cross hairs in them and whether or not they could hit at that range did not seem to keep them from trying. The statement that got me in trouble with Devin stems from this experience as their way of hunting was to load up in a Rino and ride around, shooting at pretty much anything they drove up on. I asked if they didn't think that was a little unsafe, riding around with 2 loaded bows. They said no as the cross bows had a safety and most everybody hunted that way with them in Wyoming.

I try to steer clear of the trad-nazi mentality.
My reference to the fact that an archer, used a broad brush to equate crossbow hunters, such as my son, to road hunting poachers had absolutely nothing to do with anyone’s choice of weapon. However, for whatever motive, you continue to make such an accusation. Can you clarify that, Joey?
Putting aside from this ridiculous Nazi analogy, if you care to look at our dialogue accurately, you’ll see that Joey is the only one who’s referenced traditional equipment in any manner. Are you so hypersensitive to your choice of weapon that you create make-believe attacks or are you simply trying to create divisiveness where it doesn’t exist?

I guess you’re attempting to equate this discussion to Nazism? That is really troublesome.
Putting aside from this ridiculous Nazi analogy, if you care to look at our dialogue accurately, you’ll see that Joey is the only one who’s referenced traditional equipment in any manner.
Then there's the literal mention from your previous post...
Compounds are often called training wheels and often people who hunt with them switch to trad.
I am confused though? Am I the Nazi or did you think I was calling you one?
I'm hypersensitive? LOLLast edited by tinman; 03-15-2007, 09:35 PM.

Again, Joey, you are the only one who's made any traditional archer reference in our dialouge. I dearly hope that you can admit this, otherwise, you've clearly lost focus of this discussion.
Before you post again, please go back and reread our discussion.
You made this incorrect statement, and another reference on the traditional forum:
that'd be kinda like someone claiming that a kid with an x-bow is more ethical that the most dedicated and seasoned of traditional bowhunters...
Again, if you cannot see this, then there is no reason to continue dialog....... MAN.
