They're too accurate and at the same time they will wound too many animals

People will poach with them because of how quiet they are and at the same time they're too loud and will disturb too many bowhunting.

      MC-JAVI,
I don't care either way, but I would like to have an answer to this question.
The way I look at it, TPWD more than likely won't make very much more money, due to the fact the SUPER-COMBO includes archery stamp, and most hunters allready purchase the SC.

Travis I don't think Biggen is talking about the manufacturers making money but instead following a money trail to the capitol. But I could be misinterpreting him.

Rocky... I don't think I've ever suggested that TPWD would make more money because of crossbows... But in reflection it might be enlightening to see the numbers of hunting licenses sold vs. Super Combo’s and or hunting licenses with archery stamp.. I haven’t fished in Texas for 10 years (I will this week) but I have purchased the Super Combo every year since its introduction for two reasons… 1. It’s easier than explaining exactly what I want to the clerk and 2. The money is like a donation anyway because I haven’t been hunting enough in the last few years to bother… (Hopefully that will change with my upcoming surgeries.)

I’m for crossbows in archery season because I see them as archery equipment and not the spawn of the devil. I fought the advent of the compound as vehemently as anyone up to and including having a few fistfights over it. I remember making these same arguments with even more passion than most of the people now protesting the crossbow. I was wrong and so are they… The difference is I’ve had 30 plus years to realize it…

IMO honestly. I think it's more about more money being spent on the hunting industry as a whole. You are correct. Most people by the super combo. Honestly, I dont know why people dont buy the lifetime. I bought mine as a present to myself for graduating college. I'll pay for it in about 10 more years. I would say you're correct from that standpoint but hopefully it will get more people to use what they pay for.

OH! I get what you're saying.

This is true if you aren't hunting out of a pop up or any other blind with shoot through mesh.

There are compounds shooting faster than crossbows now. The $2000 crossbow package at Cabelas advertises 342fps and the $600 crossbow advertises 305fps so I don't think crossbows there's much advantage of a crossbow over a compound. The fact you don't have to hold the poundage back is probably the biggest advantage now.

Personally I have no problem with crossbows and it may allow a younger kid, elderly, or someone with a shoulder problem to hunt with archery equipment. As long as someone practices with their weapon of choice, knows that weapon's limitations, and takes ethical shots that they know they can make for a clean kill, I have no problem with what weapon they bring to the woods.

Because they want to.... why would anyone use a compound over a re-curve..... same difference...

Did anyone ever consider that today's crossbow hunter might be tomorrows trad hunter.... we all evolve; some to more traditional equipment and some like myself to the compound..

I don't have a problem with this answer, but at this point, nobody is keeping people that want to use a crossbow from doing so.
They can use them for 60+ days during the regular season.

While I personally don't care who hunts with what, and when, the answer to my question is being avoided so I'll answer it myself.
Bows are hand-drawn, hand-held devices that are fit to the individual and are drawn at the moment of truth, the compound aiding by having let-off and storing more energy which is a good thing for bowhunters,(compounds own 85% or more of the market).
Both of these types of bows require considerable effort to become proficient with.
Crossbows allow someone to simply sight in or borrow their buddies crossbow and kill a deer.( Requires very little effort)
This can also be done with a rifle, only farther away.
