I've been working ups since I was 17. Started in 97 still in high school. In 10 more years il be 47 and can keep everything and draw a full pension at that time. I may get out or just keep going. Who knows

"Unemployed by choice" at 59. Now I am officially retired at 64, started SS last month and my retirement in May at 65.
Payed off everything early and left work with savings and debt free.
Some help with insurance with Obama Care, not much though.

I was "retired" from 1973 until about 1988....During that time I crapped my pants, got weened off a bottle, played T-ball, went to school, discovered girls, learned to drive and saw ACDC. Although I had a lot of fun, I don't plan on doing it again. Now I have a wife and I figure she'd find me way more crap to do at home than I have to do at work and I'd just as soon not do that.

Retired at 50 after 30 years with the state, the last 25 with DPS. Didn't last long though. Worked a few little part time gigs for deer lease cash for a couple years. Now I'm back to full time at the SO.

I plan on being 51 or 52 if things work out well. I will continue to work part time or volunteer but I've had all of my current job and all of Harris County that I can stand.

Retired three weeks ago!! 54 teacher and coach for 27 yrs.
You see so many people work til they can't, retire, then get sick or die shortly afterward. Wanted to retire while I can enjoy retirement. My wife has one more yr to teach then retires.

Until they reach 65, so tell them to enjoy it while they can. After 65, they get the privilege of paying a premium for Medicare as their primary and the free insurance from the state will be secondary. I'm really looking forward to that pay decrease from my "Social Entitlement check."

The plan for now is 77, but I will need the great folks living in Precinct 6 in Liberty county to vote for me to make that happen.

As I tell my co-workers, I started working to retire, on the day I was hired. September 1989. Savings meant more to me, than immediate gratification.
                    Which plant you at?

I'm with the work til I die bunch.

Retired from Ag. Teaching at 53 with 29 years, wasn't fun anymore. Sat out a year then started teaching again this year, still not fun so going to give it up again at the end of the school year and find another job to supplement retirement pay.

Agreed, but I enjoy my life now and see no reason to retire as I get to go to a job I love doing and get to spend time hunting when I want so see no reason to retire yet. I think I would die of boredom if I retired. The wife will retire in 2 to 3 years.

Never really thought about retirement until I hit 50 then all of a sudden I was like **** I am going to have to work forever. But we paid off our house and now I work three days a week, I make enough to get by , but barley. But hate what I do, and getting to old to do it. Sure wish I would have thought about it a loooooooooog time ago. But I would rather have " my" time then money so I will live this way for now, never know when your " number" is up. And I have seen way to many that retire and pass on a couple years later. So I will enjoy my days off now, that I can, rather then wait until I am unable to or to sickly to. And work as long as I have to. Eventually ( soon) I am going to have to do some thing else as my body is feeling the effects. Which means less pay, and I will probably have to work 40 plus hours to make it, sucks getting old, and not having made a plan earlier. Congrats to you that did , or are able to while you can enjoy it.
