I am resigning from Raytheon, on June 8. I start drawing retirement on July 1.

        I turn 56, next week.

As I tell my co-workers, I started working to retire, on the day I was hired. September 1989. Savings meant more to me, than immediate gratification.

54 from full time Court Reporting. Worked part time ever since, seven years. Had a pension instead of 401(k) and a wife with a good job or it wouldn't have been possible. High stress job that would have been hard to continue full time. Started when i was 20, though, so 37 years in the County Retirement System. Very blessed.

I will be 55 with 30 yrs on the FD when I retire. I am currently working on a second career path because I know I'll get bored. Gotta have something to do to keep me busy.

Retired at 55. Play golf 3-4 days a week, travel when we want to, fish when
I want to, hunt when the deer or moving (or when they are not).....not wealthy, but comfortable. Enjoyed my career in education, but LOVE retirement.

Hoping to retire or scale down at around 51ish(46 now)... Looking forward to it although I am really enjoying my job again after taking a voluntary demotion. I get to go out and really have fun again. On the other hand, I am not sure how much longer my knees can take the toll. I was born with used knees

Just curious what you guys do for health insurance? Any of you provided insurance from former employer? Private plans? Mainly for those that retired in your 50's.

Just retired at 65 after 43 years. I seem to stay busy and don't regret it at all. I would have retired a couple of years earlier but we just built new offices and I wanted to work out of the new offices for a couple of years.
