That is ridiculous. Does the plan have an annual max out of pocket limit? Cost of private plans is the main reason people can't afford to retire. Even for those at 65 with Medicare you still typically need a supplemental plan

        Retired

Retired a year and a half ago and loving it. I have a big garden that keeps me busy in Spring and do a lot of hunting in fall and a little fishing along the way. We kept our insurance from job.

My parents were 55 & 62 and both walked away with insurance from state of Texas (ERS system). They don't pay a dime on premiums and their coverage is better than my insurance and I've got pretty good insurance coverage

After 30 years with the city I retired at 50 yoa. The choice was simple because of the fact I was able to retire making the same money as when I was working. Too young to just sit around though so I started a business working on boats docks, lifts and related items. Extra money to play, buy a couple hundred acres and make up for the extra I spend having more time to hunt.

I retired from law enforcement at 55, after a heart attack (my second). Had planned to work a couple more years, but decided it was just money and I couldn't spend it if I was dead.
I love being retired. The fixed income thing is hard to get used to......no more working overtime to pay for extras......but we manage fine.
I like being able to go to the deer lease for a week at a time without worrying about how much vacation time I have left.
Stay busy with the yard, and animals (dogs, cats, chickens, turkeys, ducks, pig....you know)
We kept the same insurance I had while working but it costs me more now than it did then....not much more though.
All in all, I'm glad I retired when I did.

This is very similar to my plans. Currently I will be totally maxed out on my retirement benefits when I turn 55 (10 years from now) with 37 years in the fire service. Not sure yet what I'll do after, but getting everything lined out to where I shouldn't have to work but can if I want. Paying things off and replacing vehicles to be debt free before I retire.

Oh! I also currently pay into two additional retirement accounts on top of what my employer provides. Living very modestly now because I want to live very comfortably when I retire!

My family never retires. My grandfather's were 88 the other 93. My mother is 76 and my dad is 78. Mom is starting to think about it because she is tired of the hour commute each way. My dad says maybe 2020.

I would like to retire by 60 is my plan and maybe work at a gun store on the side.

This is a major issue for a lot of my co-workers, I'm in a salary position and already maxed out. So, effectively I'm already on a fixed income.

Smart! I'm thinking about doing the same thing in about 12 more years.
