Let's be serious here for a second and look at what is upsetting us so much. It is a warranty on a plastic box you throw cans, ice and whatever else into, then throw into the back of a vehicle. Also leave it sitting outside for days on end.
Has anyone in their life ever actually used the warranty on a portable cooler, before the YETI/RTIC/whomever else cooler craze started? Can one single person say they called Igloo to return a cooler that didn't hold ice well? Or did they just take them back to the POS and get their money back, and buy a different brand?
Think you are being baited and switched, then dont buy from RTIC. Think YETI is the best thing since conditioned air? Then buy from them with confidence. Which ever you choose, try not to get so upset over a policy change that you honestly more than likely would have never used.
They are coolers people, not kids.
I can't believe you waste money on deer and other hunting equipment when you can go to the grocery store and put the cost savings in a retirement fund.
See how that argument works?
Hunting is much more than meat as I am sure you know. Owning a cooler because it is cool and paying 4 times the price? You continue justifying that
and we wonder why a large percentage of folks will not have enough $$ for retirement. We spend crazy $$ to buy a cooler that keeps ice 5 days (which makes NO sense unless you are deep sea fishing or in a drop camp in Alaska). I can buy 5 Colemans and bags upon bags of ice for what folks pay for these coolers just so they can say they bought a Yeti? I will take the difference in price between one of these coolers and a regular one and put it in my retirement account. Same goes for so many other choices folks make financially. I admit I am old school but I just don't get being wasteful with ones money
Your post reminded me of that DirectTV settler commercial One lick every blue moon? LMAO
The warranty on a product of that quality should never come into play IMO. Warranties are designed to dupe consumers into thinking they need it just in case. I know, because I used to up sell them every day.
But it does make a statement that the manufacturer believes in their product and are willing to back that up for a said duration of time. I sell truck scales that are 10-15% higher list price above the competitors but they have a standard 10 year guarantee on parts, labor, mileage etc. No up sell...Any costs associated to a defect is free for 10 years even lightning strikes. Closest any competitor comes is a 5 year limited warranty that only covers parts after 90 days to a year and you're SOL if you get struck by lightning. On a $70-80k investment some folks can't realize the quality or justify the costs behind that product over the $50-60k scales. Just like folks can't understand or justify the upfront costs of the coolers. But the long term investment and less income lost from breakdowns is worth it every time. Same goes with the coolers, it's not really a warranty to use, it's a statement of a manufacturers belief that their product is superior and they are willing to back that belief up.

It's not just cause it is cool, I have a Yeti roadie (gift) and a Brute 50 that I bought because I beat the snot out of the yeti and never had an issue (broken latches, hinges, lid rope, drain plug, cracked sides...etc). And I have beat the snot out of it too. I'm not a rich guy but when I get a product that I can see quality hold up in the rough conditions I put it through and not have to worry about the headache of replacing the cheap wearable parts then yes it is justifiable to me. Ice retention isn't what they claim and it's not my buying point, it's the tough factor that I'm willing to pay 3-4x for.
Would you buy a vehicle for more money that you can be guaranteed won't break down as much and last you 4x as long as the cheap vehicle that you will be guaranteed to have to replace parts regularly and not have the best performance out of?

reasonable argument - to each his own - I just don't use a cooler daily or even weekly so I have no need for paying that much more - but it sounds like you use yours hard and in that situation it makes sense -
And you have your cabbages Smart! Mary has her faceless doll, Fishindadio has his stick and hoop and I think I hear Burnadell foot stomping over in White Oak
At the rate Yeti and the other like coolers get stolen out of trucks and boats down here on the coast that's probably a warranty that you will never use anyway.

I don't use them as much anymore but that roadie got used every weekend straight for probably 1.5 years at the lease and what not and took plenty of tumbles and still kicking not to mention it still has the suction seal!!!. It's all about application of use and for you an igloo might be just fine and I won't knock you for that. I just got tired of broken stuff and the higher end cooler solved that for me. But I bet some day if you were to get one you would love it. Kinda like the scales I sell, once a customer who has had the competitors and dealt with the issues and they get one of my products and see the quality, 99% of the time they will say it's worth the extra money.
