I am afraid you are wrong. I have had both the Covert Black OPS and the Covert Code Black.. yes both are 3G but the new Code Black will only run on a prepaid account I believe.

Therefore eliminating these problems. The Code Black will ONLY run on a prepaid account, therefore eliminating any problems such as your own. Once they run out that's it, and no more fees/charges like you are having.

Not according to the person I talked to at Covert this morning. Pretty much what you said (kinda) he 2015 model will only run off data and I can add data on family plan to run that camera. Just don't want to. The older camera that I have will run off of either mms or data. All this is according to the person I talked to at covert. But he did recommend just doing the prepaid. And after looking at 90 day package that looks like my best deal and I won't have to worry about making sure it is mms or data. It won't matter.

I do not know anything about a family plan with the 2015 model. To my knowledge it will only run on a prepaid account thru AT&T on their BUY A SESSION site

It honestly sounds like AT&T just got caught up with implementing a filter that filters text messages with media attached as data... as it "reasonably" should. A true text message (SMS) is a very small payload. When you attach a picture, in most cases it is converted to a different payload. For instance, I notice on my phone that if I don't have 3G, I don't get media texts... only SMS text based messages. I instead get a message that I have to "download" the message.

Ideally if you were just sending "texts" you would not need 3G, you need the 3G so you can send the media.

I bet AT&T notified you this a long time ago in some cryptic email or letter embedded with your bill and you didn't think much of it until the policy was actually enforced. Kind of like how my insurance company raised the replacement value on my house (and with it the detectable) in some notice that was bundled with my bill and went unnoticed.

But I am with you, I hate it when things change for apparently no reason.

I have the HCO att go cam and love the data plan over the unlimited text plan. I also have 2 Reconyx cell cams that are on the unlimited text plans. Is there anyway I can get them on the data plans?

What kind of pics do the Reconyx send? Im wanting something better then the covert I have.

I also have a covert and HCO and I like the Reconyx the best. Although HCO has a premium service that will send you the high quality pic for 3 bucks a month.

Yes they are. But they will pretty much last forever. My old covert gave out after 3 years these still keep on ticking.

Covert transmitted pics may get better with 2016 models. I would think they would add the addition of being able to receive a picture resolution higher than the 640x480 they have been using.

I think that can be done pretty easily by making it an option in the camera settings that are done on computer, saved to SD card, and uploaded to camera w/SD card.

One thing to be aware of is sending larger pictures is much harder on batteries. Biggest power drain on these cellular cameras is in transmitting pictures. I have 3 choices of resolution: 640x480, 1280x960, or the actual full resolution picture that was saved to the SD card. The 1280x960 picture is the one I use because the pics are so much better than the 640's. But the file size is 3-4 times larger so it eats batteries faster. Something to consider if you get a lot of pictures. I only request the full resolution image when there is something I really need/want a better look at.
