Love me some tree rats. Never have had a javi but would give it a try.

Javelina are not in the rodent family.
I don't particularly like to eat javelina, but I will because I love to stalk them with my longbow. Definitely have to be careful when cleaning them.

They make good sausage, great tamales, and if you know how to cook it they make a great meal.

            Tamales are my favorite

It is all on size, age, sex and how you clean them. We've cooked some along with store bought pork chops and didn't taste any difference.......sign up and go have fun!

I have killed lots of Javelinas over the years and have eaten them. They were okay but not my favorite to eat.I have also killed lots of feral hogs and think Javelina are just like feral hogs, some are better eating than others no matter how you take care of the meat.

I agree. I had a lot of people tell me they were no good to eat but I shot a female Javi and immediately cut the gland off the back and then cleaned. Used a crock pot to slow cook and it was very good. Tasted similar to wild hog but had a bit of a sweat taste.

It's good, I've eaten a few. Just try it for yourself and make your own opinion.

That scent gland is nasty and goes deep. Make sure not to cut it, get the meat cold as soon as possible, and it should be fine.

They make good tamales. Enough spices covers up the taste of anything but they do eat good.

They are good, you just have to know how to clean and cook them the right way.

I hope all those that throw them away get ticketed for wanton waste and the judge shows no mercy

I had mine made into professional tamales. They were really good, just a little dry. I would eat them again.

After the shot, I had to wait a couple hours to track and literally tracked mine on scent (not a lot of blood.)

I cleaned it myself, so it didn't take a rocket scientist to figure out how to do it.

The meat tasted great. I just salted it and pan fried it the first time to try the taste. Thought it had a profile more similar to beef than pork.

Ate a ton of Carne Guisada with it.
