    Here is a little humor,

Why do chiggers go in head first,

    to get their buts scratched.

ChiggerX is pretty good relief. I have started using Mineral Ice and think its the best for these bug bites. LOVE IT. Little tub with blue lid and a blue ointment.

There are many old home remidies but the best thing to do it probably get an over the counter anti-itch/insect bite cream or gel. You just gotta ride it out. And yes it sucks.
        This.

I find it rather hillarious to read some of the mis-information regarding chiggers.

Fact is, if you get into them real bad, the only thing that makes things better is time. A good over the counter anti-itch cream or whatever will help make it more barable. You may also be able to get a steriod shot from a doctor if you choose. Those bites itch 2X as much as fire ant bites and take a few days to go away.

As for repellant, sulfur powder is old school but does work. It's not the easiest thing to find though. I have found that mesquito spray (off) works just fine. No need to spray head to toe. Just spray on your feet, sock line and waste line.

Also, chiggers typically hang on tree limbs, brush, etc. If you can avoid contact with that kind of stuff, you can keep most of them off of you. Last time I got into them bad, we were clearing brush.

sulpher powder is easy to find. got mine in 2 days

I use the high deet insect spray. The regular stuff is too weak and works ok but not like the high dose deet.

after injected by a chigger --I have found that the Gold Bond Rapid Relief lotion is the best I've found.

Last time I had chiggers I went to the beach and got fit shaced....either the nasty natties or the salt water made it better! Try both.

I had the same thing this time last year. Prevention is better than the cure. Tuck in long pants into socks, douse your legs with bug spray with high DEET content, and avoid long grass/tall weeds.

Your chiggers are long gone. They don't burrow in or hang on like ticks. They inject an enzyme in your skin which helps them feed, and it's the enzyme that causes the itch.

I can honestly say they're the worst bites I've ever had, and included sleepless nights where I felt my legs were on fire. Had to sleep with the ceiling fan on full blast with no blanket on the legs. Used everything I could lay my hands on--calamine, benzocaine, aluminum sulphate, vinegar & baking soda--none of it worked. The only thing that gave me a couple of hours relief was a 1% hydrocortisone spray.

My chiggers lasted 6 weeks. Never again.

My wife did the "hot" spoon. Ran the spoon under hit water for a minute. Press the spoon to the bite area. Something about the heat breaks up the enzyme. Don't make it too hot.

Well late to this party, but future readers - I have tried it all other than the Vit B1 which I am def trying, cause Im a freaking chigger/mosquito magnet. As of now, if I get them, I dont scratch them, if they start getting bad and I need relief fast I take the ladies hair dryer put it on hot, keep it a few inches away from my skin (dont burn yourself) and go in circles around the affected area. It will relieve the itch and stay that way for a little while. I then apply some chiggerex (which is the only thing that seems to work with me) and if the itching starts up again I hit it with the hair dryer on hot again. Ive Crushed Drugs, Ive applied witch craft hazel, Ive applied just about anything chemically known to man, and every menthol concoction known to man and none work with me! I just reach the point of amputation then it goes away!

Bleach bath. Takes away the itch. Also, use very hot water in the shower. This also helps. Been there many times. Prevention is always best as previously stated.

What I do is jump in a swimming pool and hold on to the side so that my body stays submerged. The chiggers take 3 hours or more to drown (depending on if they are east tx chiggers or the light weight chiggers). I just have my wife bring me snacks and pour beverages down my throat.

You can't come out of the water or they will catch a breath and your 3 hour window starts over. After the 3 hours, scrub all the bite areas with a new wire brush (like you use to clean a BBQ grill). This removes the carcasses. Remember...even though the chigger is dead, they can still bite for a little while. Kind of like a rattlesnake head that's been severed.

I learned that if you can gain access to a saltwater pool, you can divide your submersion time by 1/3.

                            I hope this helps.

I just scratch like crazy taking the top layer of my skin in the affected area and then douse with rubbing alcohol. Sounds crazy but the alcohol is nothing compared to the insanity from itching.
