I have numerous custom knives, valued from @$200-@$850, some I use, some I don't. The latest one I had made went up in value before I paid for and received, it will be featured in Blade magazine. With the ivory ban, it may even be worth more now or in the near future. That particular maker wants me to use it, as do most makers, but I probably won't.

I have two knifes that I would consider "high dollar"

one is a custom made Keith Richards axis handle drop point knife that was a gift for selling my first two properties with the company. If you were to buy it today it would probably cost you a few hundred dollars. I use this knife like I could never wear it out, its made to use. I've skinned aoudad, wildebeest, whitetail axis, fallow, and the list goes on. it rides on my belt for about 4 months out of the year. Love this knife, its one of a kind and when it needs work I can send it back to Keith and he takes care of it and sends it back. this to me is worth some extra $$$

I also have a No. 273 of 500 Buck G5 skinner that was a present from my inlaws. nice wood handle, shiny blade, truly beautiful. Price this knife sits in my gun case because I feel it is too pretty a knife to use and due to its limited run.

I see it as another form of art collecting. The beauty, craftsmanship and originality is just worth it to some people - just like collecting any high dollar item. For example I have a friend who has over $100,000 worth of fine watches. They are really nice but it's not about funtionality - I don't think any of them keep better time than my $35 Timex Ironman.

It's just money and if you got it to spend, then spend it on what your heart desires. It's all about personal preference.

Well if its only money, send me a grand so I can have one. I am not much on wasting money. Honestly, they are beautiful but to look at it as "its only money" is kinda arrogant, aint it?

Wife got me one for our 10yr anniversary. I use it to clean all my critters now. It's probably not something I would have ever bought myself. The old lady says her only complaint is I'm thinking of her whenever I'm carving up animals now!!

I have bought close to 10 Stic knives but I never paid more than $150 for a knife. Knives just aren't' my thing. I've been carrying the same Case Locking Trapper for years. I skin with either a Havalon or a Cutco….both were gifts. If knives are your "thing", then I see nothing wrong with spending as much as you can afford.

I think the point of the post was if you enjoy using a high dollar knife, just go ahead and do it if you can afford it.

a knife is a tool just like a gun. Hunting with a fancy wood stocked rifle brings some people more enjoyment afield than hunting with a plain jane synthetic stocked would.

                        knifes are no different.

Wasting money is kind of a misnomer. only time its wasted is if you throw it away or burn it.

                          Thats exactly what I meant.

My highest dollar knives are a couple stics. Knives arent my deal but I don't see it as a waste for those that are in to them. I'm sure we all have hobbies or collections someone else thinks is a waste.

We recently hired a young man and he was so proud of his $300 pocket knife. Everytime someone was going to open something he was there to flick it open and show it off

After a week of telling him he needed to get a working man's knife and him not listening, he had to use it on some nasty chemical and now no longer opens!!

What ever trips your trigger is what I say. As long as it doesn't cut into the necessities.

I'm a basic kind of guy. I've got several Victorinox Swiss Army knives that get a lot of use, mostly because of all the handy tools in them and they seem almost impossible to hurt. Not to mention they don't intimidate anybody when you pull one out. My go to knife for hunting and heavier chores is a 5 1/2" Case folding hunter that I bought in 1965. Wore out the wooden handles a few years back, so got me some nice red bone and rehandled it.

I have a rather extensive collection of Case Seahorse Whittlers (over 100) that never get used. Why? I have no idea. Have not bought one in over a year and wondering why I ever did.

I've got a drawer with several stics in it and a few other nice knives, though none of them were over a few hundred bucks.

some I've bought and later found that I spent a few more dollars on them than they were worth.

and I like my havalon -- alot.

picked up an Anza yesterday, and bought another Stic today - but I promise they will both get used.
