Not sure if they perform any differently than an over the counter production knife...however, the fit and finish of them isn't even in the same ballpark as the cheap (but useful) knives. I love knowing that I have a one of a kind knife, belt, buckle etc...some guys have fancy watches even when the cheap ones probably work just as well. Other guys have expensive custom boots when a good pair of Justin's do just fine. I'm a fan of supporting individual knife makers who sacrifice their time and pour their god given talent into a product that they are making just for me. I'd be proud to carry their knife and pass it down to my kids one day.

Does anyone actually use these knives or are they simply a show? If you do use it does it perform like a $500 knife 'should'?
Do they perform better? They should, better steel better fit and finish. 1000 dollars better? 2000 better? I dont know. As a knifemaker it goes a little deeper than that. You've crafted something a piece of art and spent lots of time on it, something that can be handed down for generations. A well cared for knife will last as longer or longer than a well cared for firearm. And yes i carry a $400 knife I made and use it tar out of it. With the ruby bearings not found in any production knife i can drop it in sand/mud and keep using it with no more than a light squirt of air if that with no ill effects to the pivot due to the properties of rubies. Many pocket knives will lock up.
I was guiding a hunter one time who was bragging about his $80,000 shotgun and telling me no way hed spend the prices i asked for my knives, he could get a cheap one at walmart. I told him i could do the same with shotguns and his 80k shotgun shot the same $5.95 box of shells my cheap shotgun shot.......
I was invited to have a table at the East Coast Custom Knife Show held last weekend. I saw a knife for $175,000, saw over 300 people stand in line for the chance to buy a $24,000 knife that sold a couple of times before it left the door. Many people enjoy collecting the artform and many use them as investments, a well respected maker with a name in the knifemaking world will rarely have a knife sell for less in the secondary market.

I won a very nice knife last year at a shoot. Awesome looking knife that's is supposed to be worth $500. Its to nice for me to use so it sits in the safe. I will probably sell it or trade it away for something that I will use.

I was given a few customs over the years when I started hunting with my uncle. He enjoyed handing them down and knew I would use them and always hang on to them. They performed great. When I started collecting knives for display I retired them. Each one has a story behind it. They are like guns to me. Now I use a havalon with changeable blades for skinning. To each is own.

do you need flashing strings on your bow? or sent blocker camo and an ozonics? a browning medallion A-bolt? badlands pack? 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 lumen light? a carbon bow you can run over with a truck? nope not a one of those will kill a deer better than the less expensive not so good looking comparison. but lemme tell ya I want all of the above bc my buddy doesn't have one yet hahaha

So, you pay $900 for "the look" and $100 for the same function as everyone else? Sorry, dont get it.

Why not? It's only money and you can't use it when you're gone

Same could be said for alot of things in life. Vehicles, houses, coolers, bows, guns, ect. In the end to each their own.
