"Vice President Biden said Wednesday that the White House could use "executive orders" to deal with gun control, as he kicked off a round of meetings aimed at finding ways to curb gun violence.
The vice president met Wednesday with gun-safety and victims groups, saying he is "determined" to take "urgent action" to address gun violence.
"This is not an exercise in photo opportunities or just getting to ask you all what your opinions are. We are vitally interested in what you have to say," Biden said.
The White House has sought to avoid prejudging what Biden's recommendations would be. But the vice president hinted Wednesday that executive action -- action by the president in which Congress would not have a say -- would indeed be involved.
"There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken," Biden said, adding "we haven't decided what that is yet."

Is this enough to start it's own thread. Getting pretty serious now IMO.
First, although it was "breaking news", there was very little actual information contained in the release. Probably going to be an EO? No real surprise.
It probably warrants ONE new thread. However, at least three new ones were started about it yesterday. The first two were merged into one, while the third was deleted. Additionally, the release was quoted in this thread.
I believe this is a three day "summit" to gather input that will go towards Biden making a recommendation. I predict that every time a news release or "new nugget" is reported out of said conference that AT LEAST one new thread, and more than likely multiple, will be started as users race to "break" the news here.
Ideally, a single thread would have been started about the "biden/ white house gun summit" beginning and all relevant information would be posted within.

mandate a bow to gun thread ratio10 bow to one gun
Hell everyone here knows whats going on with this gun debate and if they don't they are completely disconnected from society. Much of the posted and reposted threads are so the same players on here can have an avenue to complain.
Do we need to make sure our second amendment rights are not taken away? Absolutely.
But like said earlier, we are all like minded individuals on here or we wouldn't be here. If that's the case don't you think we are all thinking the same thing the gun thread just said. Spend your time not preaching to the choir, work on a fence sitter not us like minded individuals

An open letter to President Obama
Mr. President
As a young airborne soldier one of the first things I learned was to lead by example, my NCO's always told me that they would never ask anything of me that they could not or would not do themselves, and later I never asked anything from one of my soldiers that I could or would not do myself. Mr. President, having never served in the military, you obviously never learned this concept. It is quite obvious that they do not teach the concept of leading by example at Harvard. It strongly appears you learned the "do as I say, not as I do" approach to leadership.
Mr. President, we the people, especially the veterans of this once fine nation asks that you step up to the plate, lay aside your old ways, and finally lead by this country by example. Mr. President as the Commander and Chief of our nation we ask that you lead as a military leader would, by example.
Mr. President, you and your administration are now calling for a ban on so called "assault" weapons and high capacity magazines, saying we the people have no need for such "implements of war". Yet, Mr. President, your Secret Service agents and White House police protecting you and your family, around the clock, carry those exact same "implements of war" in order to protect you and your family. Mr. President, why is your life and the life of your family more valuable than mine?
Mr. President, there has never been an actual attempt on your life, nor has your security services had to discharge their weapons to defend your life. Unlike you Mr. President, I have had to use my weapon to defend myself. My weapon has actually protected me from death and grave physical harm, the very weapon you claim I do not need. Mr. President, we the people do not have a 100 man, heavily armed security detail to protect us from the dangers we face every day, instead we the people rely on our Constitutional right to bear arms. This right is guaranteed by the very Constitution that you and I both took an Oath to uphold and defend.
Mr. President here is this old veteran's suggestion, if you honestly feel that banning assault weapons or high capacity magazines will reduce America's violence, then lead by example. Immediately issue an executive order, followed by legislation, that all federal and state law enforcement agencies including your Secret Service surrender their full and semi-automatic duty weapons, and replace them with revolvers, bolt action rifles, and pump shotguns. There has never been an attempt on your life; your personnel security would not be compromised by your bodyguards only carrying revolvers. If there is not a threat serious enough to warrant a housewife to need a handgun with a 15 round magazine capacity to protect her three small children, then there is not a threat serious enough to warrant the Secret Service to carry more than a revolver while protecting your children. What is fair for the goose is fair for the gander.
This ban will also extend to the military as well; all high capacity magazines will be seized and issued only for oversea deployments in a combat zone once the soldier is physically outside of the country. If there is no potential threat here domestically that justifies a hunter to need an AR 15 with 30 round magazine then our military should not need them either. Our country has never been invaded, why is our military so paranoid?
Mr. President, be a true leader, do not ask the people to do anything you can or will not do yourself. If you want to ban "assault" weapons and high capacity magazines then start with yourself and the government. Set an example for the rest of the country to follow.

I love how every time there's any news AT ALL, people here think they HAVE to post it right away. As if some of us are stranded on an island that has no news coverage. Last time I checked, the same Internet access that's brings us TBH, also brings whatever news.com site they got their "breaking" news from.
