Gun Control Rant Threads (or Rants in General)

Ah, the old days. Bring back the Outlaw Posse.A select few of us used to really push the envelope back then but it was usually late at night and we didn't offend anyone....well not many anyway.
This place is huge now so it has to be policed differently.
Keep up the good work Michael. It truely is the best place on the intrawebs.

I understand the implications of some of these topics to maintaining our Second Amendment rights but, frankly many of these topics are simply rhetoric and add little value to our forum. Additionally, there's a LOT of redundency with the same "information" posted in multiple topics.
I think we all want TBH to remain something we can all be proud to be a part of; and I think Michael is just asking us to try and keep it that way.
I do agree with Michael; although this is an important topic that is near & dear to many of us; the sheer volume of threads posted on the same subject over and over and over again doesn’t help the TEXAS BOWHUNTER site, nor does it help the current issues we are faced with today in regards to gun control.
What it does do is give folks a place to air out their frustrations and concerns, even if it doesn’t change the way things are right at the moment.....And I guess that makes some people feel better; even when they know it is at the detriment of the site.....
Sometimes all folks want is their voice to be heard.
And sometimes some folks don’t know when to quit…..
I have seen an awful lot of first kill threads that have got very little response in comparison to the glut of gun threads that have flooded the site as of late.
Maybe some of us have forgot how good it felt to be congratulated on taking our first animal…..It means just as much to the TBH’ers posting kill threads today……

Let me ask each of you, when was the last time you posted to EITHER the Bowhunting Reports or the Equipment forums? I'm guilty, too, but there's usually considerable irony when somebody complains about not enough bowhunting threads on TBH.

Thanks, Mary.
Originally posted by Michael View PostOne of the biggest responsibilities with the site is to keep it moving forward in a positive direction, and one of the biggest challenges is balancing the desire to keep long-time members, who have seen it all and often have the "old days syndrome" Jason mentioned, with attracting new bowhunters and members to incorporate into the mix. It's easy enough for members who have been around for awhile to navigate through different forums, threads and topics, knowing which topics (and sometimes which members) to avoid. Unfortunately, it's not so easy for first-timers to get an immediate feel for the site if they come to Around the Campfire and within the first 25 topics they see six AR related threads, four Johnny Football thread, three gun control article links, a few of the "latest" jokes or pictures that I saw eight times on my FB a couple of days ago...you get the idea.
It's a delicate balance, and I feel like it is my responsibility (with help of moderators and members) to sometimes "nudge" it in the right direction when I feel like the is becoming something I don't want it to be. (I also admittedly go through phases where I have more or less time to devote to "clean-up" than other times.)
Nothing additional has been banned or placed off-limits. Just requesting quality over quantity.

What am I supposed to post, that I suck at bowhunting these days?
Well, last weekend I sat there and stared at some trees again and saw nothing eat my corn.
