Feeder Funnel Yes or No... and why or why not?

I have a question for you guys.

Let me start this off saying I am biased. I have feeder funnels in all my feeders. but I hear alot of different opinions on it.

Some say they dont work, others say that if you have a large feeder you dont need it.... "With that much volume, you really don't need an inside funnel."

I hear that alot and I dont understand it... Whats the logic behind that?

I think the funnel prevents the corn from setting on the edges of the bottom of the barrel and getting moldy... with more volume is that not going to happen?

    What does the GS say?

I have not used them before in 55 gal barrel feeders and a significant amount of corn is not spun. With the funnel, all the corn will run out of the barrel. Only reason I put mine in.

I do not use funnels in my 55 gallon barrels, but with the shaking of the feeder spinning, there is corn left on the sides, but not a lot in my feeders.

I have some with and some without. None are huge (350 lb.) but those without will be fitted with funnels soon. Stagnant corn at the bottom of a feeder can be an issue that I'd rather not deal with any more.

Funnel for me if I used 55 gallon drums.

Any moisture that gets to that corn that stays in those bottom edges will rot or mold. I'd rather not have to dump my feeder after the season every year..

I use them too. Have you smelled rotting corn?

I had a feeder for 5 years without a funnel, when we finaly took it down to take it to another spot, the bottom of it was nearly rusted out, so now 100% of all our 55 gallon feeders get a funnel.

We have used them to prevent the left over corn from rotting which then can cause rust in the inside of your barrel....give it 3,4,5,6 years and your barrel bottom will fall out b/c of this.

Funnels in all of mine. Funnels are easy now that they make those plastic ones.

Do these look just like a vehicle oil/fluid funnel? They just rest inside the feeder barrel?

Never heard that.....The 85 gallon drums I would think would be much worse with the rotten corn and they hold 200 more lbs than the 55 gallon drums.

Most large feeders are designed with a funnel...Here are my 600lb Bighorns...

Yup... I buy the plastic ones then add a piece of 2 3/4" exhaust pipe for the down spot... Heres the generic pic... I will get a pic of the one I just put on when I get to the house.

my Krivoman feeder has a built in funnel so no need...on my 55gallon winch up I do not have one ANYMORe because it got clogged and I got tired of it!!!

Had one until corn slipped down the side and got stuck. PIA to remove it!
