I don't know what to tell ya man, mine just set there with corn and corn dust for a funnel. When I move one I dump out 10 pounds of corn and dust.
You don't have to tell me anything. I bought another funnel before the season ended, sold them all and moved to these 600lbers with built in funnels without any problems..
I hate to do it ( j/k ) but I got to agree with Smart on this one!

I would continue arguing but this pretty much sums up my feelings as well. Smart you got this one.
incidentally I have more problems without a funnel the BIGGER the feeder is. Nature will create a funnel . . . if you don't put a metal one then compressed rotten corn will become one.
The TBH master craftsman and overbuilder of all things deer lease but no funnel...
I don't have a stapler attached to my bow either, know why?
I guess I kinda do have 1 funnel, but it doesn't really act like a regular funnel. There is a lot of corn dust accumulated in this one over the last several years because the flat bottom is still pretty big....and it's never been empty other than the time the lid blew off and it DID get moldy then!

Any moisture that gets to that corn that stays in those bottom edges will rot or mold. I'd rather not have to dump my feeder after the season every year..
I don't have a funnel in mine and they have lasted for several years. That little bit left around the edges, just gets swept out. It will only leave five or six pounds, but a funnel takes enough room to limit you to a half a bag less capacity.
To each their own.
I don't use funnels unless I buy a feeder and it already has one in it. I use crank up/down feeders and once a year, generally in July when I have intentionally let it get empty or nearly so, I crank it down, and dump all the bugs, dust and bad corn. Hammer on it a bit to make sure the "chunks" are gone, re-attach, refill, and re-start. Some folks do get a bit **** about this topic--but has never been an issue for me. Also, it is 30-minutes or less to any of my feeders so it's not a problem. Not like having to drive from DFW to deep south Tx, etc.
I know what it is, I built it! The flat part on the bottom is big enough that the "funnel" doesn't "funnel" the corn all the way down. But this one has only been empty once in 6 years...when the lid blew off and it rained...ughh. I don't think you could have a 36" square container without at least some funnel or you'd have over 100lbs of corn in there not moving. All my other feeders are 85 gallon barrels and they don't keep more than about 10 or 15 pounds in the bottom, it doesn't get moldy though.....just sets there.

Nice funnel.......
I could see the slanted funnel section pushing the corn on your small flat spot out of the way...
I can't believe a thread on funnels went two pages...
And yet to answer the question: Why do people say the bigger feeders dont need funnels? Seems like they would need it worse... Especially if you never run them empty...
AN empty feeder means I drove all the way to the lease and DIDNT see SHIATASKY!!!!
Dale my funnel only takes up the space of 10-15lbs of corn... I cant believe that you have never had any mold just setting there in the corners... I have seen some NASTY greenish/brownish/blackish clumps of crap that inevitably move over in the way of the hole and clog it up...
But still the question remains why do people say the big ones dont need em?

I'd try to help answer that one but you are the only person that I have ever heard say that.
In fact I'd think it would be the exact opposite...
