Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. a.k.a. "The Golden Rule". If everyone would follow this one rule, we could do away with 99% of the other ones!

Seems like some folks suggest if you have lease rules it takes the fun out of it. This is far from the case. The people and how they work with others make it fun...not the lack of a sheet of paper. And sometimes a few rules are needed to help cull those folks that could threaten that fun or **** off the landowner and ruin it for everybody. There is a happy medium out there...and it starts with getting the right folks and adding a little bit of structure. It ends with a happy landowner and good times for all.

I am fortunate and do get to make the rules!! This is what ALL our hunters sign each year.
Rules:
1.Safety is a prime consideration as we all love this sport and have no desire to be a part of a hunting statistic. Knowing where all hunters are at all times and utilizing restraint when an unsafe shooting situation occurs is paramount. Guns should not have a chambered round when at camp.
2.Respect for the property and Landlord wishes will be followed at all times. Close all gates that were closed, leave all gates open that were open, pick up ALL trash whether it’s yours or not, report any downed fences or cattle problems to the lease quarterback or to the Landlord immediately, and do not drive vehicles beyond the main road areas when conditions are muddy.
3.All hunters will adhere to the laws, regulations, hunting and tagging limits set forth by the State of Texas.
4.There will be a map a camp that will show all hunting/stand locations. Prior to setting up new hunting/stand locations, check the map to maintain a safe and respectable distance from existing locations.
5.Respect for fellow hunters is expected at all times. If you show up late and don’t know where others are, do not drive at will throughout the property potentially ruining others hunting opportunities. We will try to devise a way of letting others know where we are for this situation as well as for safety purposes.
6.The campsite is for all to enjoy and all should participate in maintaining the grounds and pull their fare share of the work that needs to be done.

I dont think I could ever hunt a place with 4 pages of rules, kinda takes the fun out of it for me but then again I know their are some EGG HEADS out that that require them. Need to resort back to the old ways of dealing with dumb butts, a good ol fashion butt whooping

Good thread. It seems a little sad how common sense and consideration is in such short supply these days. I love my group and while it may change by one person here and there occasionally it is pretty consistant. Amazing how many guests have never been asked back because they are either Freddy the Freeloader or act like a complete jerk while they are there. My rules revolve around safety, taking mature animals, respecting others and respecting the property. Deer hunting reveals a man's true character everytime.
I like the rule someone posted about not talking bad about significant others. I hate to hear these things around the campfire.

Reference #5
we had a map of stand locations at camp at a lease mays years ago.
When you decided what stand you wanted to hunt you put a tag on that stand location . If a person came in late you looked to see where tags were located and hunted location that would not interfere with other hunters. If you forgot to put a tag on your location and someone walked to or by your hunt location you only had yourself to blame

I could enjoy a lease that didn't have the same rules, but if I ever had it to do my way (which I won't because I have had all of the lease manager duties I care to partake in) these would be the top 5 rules
Usually results in me turning in early with him.
I know it is deer camp and guys want to be guys, so I end up trying to adapt as best I can.
One day he will be older and it will not matter, but for now I do not like the foul language in front of him. He will learn it in life, I know, but he will never learn it from me. I also do not cuss in front of other folks kids either.Last edited by TexasCanesFan; 03-19-2012, 09:22 AM.
