Mud boats running all over the lakes up here for nothing. I haven't seen a bird yet. Did drag the Pro Drive out from behind the shop and got her cleaned up. Getting new tires today and then probably new fuel lines and filter and battery and take her to the lawnmower man to get running again. Haven't cranked that thing since 2016. Hopefully he can get her purring again without too much effort!

Did some scouting last week. Gonna be some birds , but I believe overall it is gonna be slow overall and get real tough after the weekend. I have been to my ranch in young county and my buddy's place in coleman County about 4 times in the last month. I live in Houston. I haven't seen a single duck on any pond coming or going. My buddy hasn't seen one either. Not lookin good for the early part of the season.

Hunted Sunday and Monday in POC and there weren't many birds ended up with 7 across both hunts. Fishing was pretty good though

Hunted the opener and we had our 7 man in about an hour, figured we were in and out soon enough so we went back to the same pond the next day and only scratched 17.

My concern is that we shot pretty much all blue wings and this little front is gonna push them out but not be strong enough to backfill them with anything. Guess we will find out.

Took my 4yr old on his 2nd hunt since the weather had been very warm. He’s absolutely hooked

Can’t only post about the good ones I suppose lol

                  last two days have suckkkkeddddd

10 birds between 5 of us near Wallisville (SC?) and then only 3 birds between 6 of us this morning. Fog was so thick you could barely see the decoys until 830 this morning.

NTX opener sucked. What few birds we had are shot up now and I don't know when they will get replenished. We have a small front moving in wed/Thurs but I don't expect that to really bring any birds.

Looking at the long term forecast we don't have a decent cold front coming anytime soon.

Tons of birds on the lake today. Lots of big groups of migrators resting in the middle of the lake as we were headed to fish and saw several big groups fly over too. Good to see some migration.

Haven’t set a duck decoy yet. Did go on our annual crane trip Monday and Tuesday out in Plainview and has a good time as always. Did well on the cranes and picked up a few bonus geese. Mis the years past when I used to do all that for a job, great memories.

Texas will always have ducks but with warmer winters and poor duck production I suspect we’ll only continue to see a downward trend. I anticipate a 45 day season and a 3 or 4 bird limit in the near future as production continues to struggle and pressure from so many hunters continues to climb. Haven’t seen that since I started with Dad in the 90’s but if it’ll trim the fat and help the resource I’m all for it👍

Wasn't seeing any ducks on private land so I hunted a public lake I have never tried before for the opener. Only shot 1 duck personally but it was my first ever Wood Duck! Hunting season is already a success no matter what happens now, Wood Duck has been top of my bucket list for 3-4 years now!

On another note do you think it would be okay to mount this bird being its so early season? I don't want to mount it if the pin feathers or something similar would effect the quality of the taxidermy.
