He called me a couple of days ago and said, "I want to go kill some ducks with you". As you could imagine, I'm EXCITED. I went and did a little trimming to try to give us the best chance as possible, and we'll give it a go monday morning. Like christmas morning, i cant wait.
Thats Great! Good Luck! Memories will be made for sure!

I'm in northeast Kansas right now on a pheasant hunt and the ducks are pretty sparse up here. The guides are saying it hasn't got cold enough for ducks to come down. Seen a couple of ponds with birds on them but that's about it.

I know a couple people in Montana that say the birds have never shown up there.

Our trip to Oklahoma this last week was terrible. Nothing showed up with the front.

Looks like everything Nebraska north should freeze solid after new years.

Honestly though, Ive hunted those freeze ups in recent years and they usually just disappoint.

I drove around yesterday and saw some groups of reds heads and a couple groups of pintails. Nothing to get excited about. This is Corpus Bay Area. Honestly more birds were in area a couple weeks ago

The truth is finally coming to fruition. Maybe we’ll make some season framework and limit framework next year that makes sense. We are missing half the mallards we had 7 years ago and I’m sure the other populations are struggling too. Time to set seasons and limits based on the resource and not the survival of industry.

Unfortunately we are already set for the same season framework for the 25/26 season. Plus usfw BPOP says we have more ducks this year than we did last year.

But early teal will be reduced to 9 days this September

The BPOP was within the margin of error of 5%, so we very well likely didn’t climb in mallards. Still if it’s 6 million, that’s a far cry from 11 million we had in 2017. I don’t trust they’re getting it right or reporting right anyways. On top of that the Drake to hen ratio is astronomically skewed to drakes. The bird that makes eggs is becoming scarce. The. They’re saying we kill over half a million hens a year but that doesn’t matter… it might now with a smaller population.

Sucks how they do AHM too, I remember when they implemented that as a young kid. They set it based on that year. Money ruins everything and that’s exactly what’s happening here. The dollar matters more than the resource. Shorter seasons mean less state dollars, less federal dollars and less dollars for businesses in the industry. Ironically those industries and dollars go away if there’s no resource anyways. Glad to see people waking up. Lot of the duck hunters in that 40-60 year range are quitting. The hunting has declined to the point it isn’t worth going for many of them when there’s a heated box with a feeder in front of it. Less hunters is good for pressure and competition right? Wrong. Those are the hunters with money for conservation and they’re leaving… the junior flat billers ain’t got anything to contribute in volume.
