You shouldn't have to worry about any issues until another snowpocolypse comes

I may be wrong but if I remember right the Feds have said a certain % of power has to come from “alternative sources” which I took as wind and solar. Will ERCOT have to obey this even in storm situations?

they definitely need to maintain the grid better
ERCOT doesn't clear ROW. That is the individual power company. We had lots of power outages. So I called, told Centerpoint the issue, and within a month, all the trees between the sub and our house were cleared. You should call your power provider and let them know.

That was an issue during the 2021 Snowmagedden. I am not positive on the numbers, but something like we could only run our power plants at 65%. I think we can go over, but there is a huge fine associated with it and it is astronomical. Like a 2500% increase per MKw or something.

Not much faith in them at all. I do not think the upcoming weather will be as harsh as before but like others have said, my generator and fuel are ready. Got a big portable this past summer and the quick connect to my main breaker so I will be warm.

No faith at all. Thats why I am getting a new(to me) generator setup this weekend, to make sure I am covered. Will be nice to be on NG and not dependent on unleaded petrol.

Good luck to you all in this cold season.

We came close to rolling blackouts last summer when we had many 100 degree days in a row so I must admit my confidence is low. I will hope for the best but prepare for the worst. We need to build more Natural Gas fired Power Plants and we need them ASAP! It is a fact that the Solar and Wind segment of power generation in our State will not satisfy our electrical needs as it has failed to do so in recent history. Just my opinion
Have no fear, new gas plants are being looked at....

I don’t know who all was affected by this but I know some pipeline companies with compressor stations that could run on generator power were told they had to be able to switch to generator power remotely or on demand when power shed was needed.

ERCOT just asked us on the TV to go easy on the power during the freeze up...

been hearing this for a few years. I have a house at Tradinghouse Lake outside Waco, where they closed a gas plant years ago. Rumor mill says that are considering rebuilding it.

One of the big Texas companies is getting more serious about it

                              OK
                              one more time
ercot only manages the power on the grid in texas. they dont create or eliminate power. individual power companies are responsible for clearing their transmission lines.
your politicians are responsible for the poor state of the grid. they have had years to create opportunities for more power plants and none have been built. they had the opportunity to force power companies to upgrade transmission lines but have done nothing. it's not a democrat or republican thing,it's a politician thing.
factor in the feds and epa and u have a 4 star cluster

I'm so confident that I topped off the fuel on the big 33KW generator, then took the fuel trailer to town and topped it off plus I filled every diesel and gas can that I own.
