Have you ever called them to tell them how often you have power outages?

The amount of hype going into this thing, I am betting everything will be the exact opposite. Some outages here and there, some sob story on the news, but generally electricity stays on, roads are fine, etc....

We have the same issue. Had power out 2 different times this week because of high winds. According to the contractors with Pike Electricity, Oncor is the worst maintained power provider they contract with. He mentioned if they would trim trees and change out rotten telephone poles, they would not have as many outage problems. I have not had my power line easement trimmed since 2005, and yes I have asked for the easement to be trimmed.

Yes the “ ol sky is falling syndrome” as in several things/topics these days.

And we believe you! Market manipulation doesn’t happen. That’s why government funded wind and solar farm eye sores keep popping up. Nope, no manipulation there!

Ask for a “run back” on your outages for the past 2 years. Then, let me know the results and I’ll try to give you some advice. And, I wouldn’t put too much weight into what a contractor tells you…..

Government tax credits to wind farms really did put gas plants at a disadvantage . Wind farms are always on top of the bid stack when selected to run because of their lower offer price. They are able to lower their price due to government support. At times of low load they may pay to stay online so they can continue to collect the subsidy

And, if that’s not market manipulation, then I don’t know what is.

ercot only manages the power on the grid in texas. they dont create or eliminate power. individual power companies are responsible for clearing their transmission lines.
your politicians are responsible for the poor state of the grid. they have had years to create opportunities for more power plants and none have been built. they had the opportunity to force power companies to upgrade transmission lines but have done nothing. it's not a democrat or republican thing,it's a politician thing.
factor in the feds and epa and u have a 4 star cluster
"individual power companies are responsible for clearing their transmission lines" - uhm.....the lines are all connected- hence the grid.
I can see keeping lines clear in your own switchyard- but once it leaves from there it's joined up to lines that are Centerpoint controlled (in the Houston area anyways)
The power company / plant I work for has 5 feeders leaving our switchyard and we durn sure don't trim any trees.

Not true on the no new plant part. I know of at least one- an 8-unit peaker being built outside of Baytown right now, looks to be nearly complete.
I've been told these will pump nearly 100 mw's each- so there's 800 mw's that will be ready to join in when needed (once complete).
For those of you getting your deer processed at Juniors in Highlands, you saw it- but might not have recognized it.

I saw in the news a year or so ago where Abbot was signing some sort of law / executive order allowing for low cast loans to companies willing to build gas plants inside the state.
Evidently "Pro Energy" took them up on it.
