Who is confident that ERCOT has the Texas Grid ready?

With the pending Arctic Weather coming our way next week, are you confident that ERCOT has weather proofed our Power Generation ability within the state of Texas that we will not have the power outages and rolling blackouts that we had two years ago? We came close to rolling blackouts last summer when we had many 100 degree days in a row so I must admit my confidence is low. I will hope for the best but prepare for the worst. We need to build more Natural Gas fired Power Plants and we need them ASAP! It is a fact that the Solar and Wind segment of power generation in our State will not satisfy our electrical needs as it has failed to do so in recent history. Just my opinion

I don't think they have it up to snuff, but i don't think it will be evident with this upcoming cold spell. It won't be long enough to really stress the grid and with it being dry, we don't really have to worry about outages due to downed powerlines, and pyschologically people tend to react like its colder when the snow and ice are flying.

But no... i don't think long terms they were able to keep up with the additional influx of people moving to texas.

I expect no major issues with storms next week. The lack of precipitation, combined with just two cold days, I don't see it being an issue. I also have a generator and fuel ready to go just in case. We will be warm regardless of the grid.

I don't think this short freezing weather will cause many problems, but just in case I have my generator and fuel ready.

Power use and demand on grid is one thing when the outside temps are in the 20s. With the pending temps in the low teens and single digits, there is going to be a big load on the grid. Not sure what everyone is talking about with quick rebound in temps either with only sub freezing for a couple days. Many areas will be sub freezing approaching 70+ hours.

Maybe 3 days of cold, what am I missing here? Our grid cant handle 3 days below freezing?

I’m not worried about this small cold snap, but Ercot infrastructure is pretty dilapidated, we have brownouts all summer here , and on Monday 40+ mph wind that caused tree damage that took out the grid
they definitely need to maintain the grid better

Glad I am in the part of Texas not in ERCOT….. I think.

After the big grid failure, energy transportation in Texas has fallen under the oversight of the Texas Railroad Commission. They now have inspectors who's entire job is to keep an eye on different energy stations and power plants. Between that and other things I've heard, it sounds like Texas has been cracking down on ERCOT. Hopefully it has a good impact.

Same! Lubbock just joined ERCOT Jan 1. I’m just 10 or so miles from their grid, and drive by a substation nearly daily. Will be interesting to see if there are problems as power will be re-routed from LBK to down state

I’m kinda looking forward to it. With this arctic front means hands off at the plant. Hopefully we get in some “shop” time!!!

I'd like to see everything work, but wouldn't be surprised if ERCOT screws something up.

No faith in ERCOT, much faith in GENERAC ! (for a few days at least)
