With the pending Arctic Weather coming our way next week, are you confident that ERCOT has weather proofed our Power Generation ability within the state of Texas that we will not have the power outages and rolling blackouts that we had two years ago? We came close to rolling blackouts last summer when we had many 100 degree days in a row so I must admit my confidence is low. I will hope for the best but prepare for the worst. We need to build more Natural Gas fired Power Plants and we need them ASAP! It is a fact that the Solar and Wind segment of power generation in our State will not satisfy our electrical needs as it has failed to do so in recent history. Just my opinion

I don't think they have it up to snuff, but i don't think it will be evident with this upcoming cold spell. It won't be long enough to really stress the grid and with it being dry, we don't really have to worry about outages due to downed powerlines, and pyschologically people tend to react like its colder when the snow and ice are flying.
But no... i don't think long terms they were able to keep up with the additional influx of people moving to texas.

Power use and demand on grid is one thing when the outside temps are in the 20s. With the pending temps in the low teens and single digits, there is going to be a big load on the grid. Not sure what everyone is talking about with quick rebound in temps either with only sub freezing for a couple days. Many areas will be sub freezing approaching 70+ hours.

After the big grid failure, energy transportation in Texas has fallen under the oversight of the Texas Railroad Commission. They now have inspectors who's entire job is to keep an eye on different energy stations and power plants. Between that and other things I've heard, it sounds like Texas has been cracking down on ERCOT. Hopefully it has a good impact.
