ERCOT is a market clearing house. They do not own generation or transmission. Market participants are who will determine if the grid is secure.

This is correct. Do you think the suppliers will keep everything up and running and keep pricing on the low side? Think again, they will shed power to bring
the price up and stick the consumers with a outrageous bill that ERCOT will approve like they did for the 21 fiasco!

Market participants may have issues with units but if prices are high they will want to capitalize on running their units to the top to make as much money as possible. ERCOT will dispatch generation to match load. We may not have enough available generation in the grid but ERCOT doesn’t build power plants.

Before deregulation companies were required to shed their own load if they were short generation. Now everyone sheds load based on their percentage of the total load. Pre deregulation companies seemed to have more responsibility in serving their customers. Now companies are able to soak off the grid even if their load forecast was short or the just decided to risk not purchasing enough power. Being prepared and self sufficient is must these days. Hope we all stay warm.

I'm more concerned with icing. I'll be ready for several days if needed.

It will probably be fine, or it won't be. Either way I'm ready.

Market manipulation is a crime. I can assure you we don't do that. The market is already tight enough and plenty of money to be made by GO's that can stay on-line.

I would assume we will eventually create a capacity market to help new gas plants be built. Right now a gas plant may cost $50 a MW to run and the same power can be bought from a wind farm for $10 a MW so the wind farm gets to run as much as possible and gas plant only runs when wind slows down. It’s just hard to justify building new gas plants in this environment. With a capacity market there will be a way to fund new gas plants and help with reliability But it won’t be free.

Bought a generator and have it wired up to the house. Way more prepared than I was in 21 at least for however long 3x20# of propane will last. Should be fine for this couple of days though

Yes along Red River they are now saying 2-4” of snow and ice. Not good
Don’t know about rest of the state. Snow not nearly as bad as ice. Hopefully it will be cold enough to only snow!

and yes ERCOT sucks donkey sausage!

Wind blew a little this morning and cutrrently out of power

Oncor gets paid to maintain the lines, can't tell you the last time I saw a trimming crew. They just react to outages no PM work done, EVER

I’m very confident that our government (all levels) could and will screw-up a wet dream.
