40 days until I'm hunting in New Mexico unit 34! Let's see, things left to do:

- get in shape
- practice with my bow
- lose weight
- dig out all that stuff
- learn to breath without oxygen
- buy more stuff
- hit the gym

What am I forgetting??

Bought a mouth cow elk call. I make a bad a&$ turkey sound but no cow sound.

Chew...this sounds just like me. Good luck with learning that thing. I've been practicing all spring and summer and still sound like a turkey.

We are going Sept 3-9.....but we hunt private surrounded but public. Normally there is an influx of animals that either get pushed off public all together or they get pushed into the really hard to access public areas.

Labor day weekend is usually a zoo with probably more campers and off-roaders than hunters. I would say its the busiest weekend in the forest by far.

That would be nice. What unit? We're gonna be in 73. Thinkin Ill just skip labor day wkd and head up on the 5th.

Well just found out that I have the opportunity to hunt in the strawberry mountain wilderness in Oregon for elk this year. We will still be hunting our normal spots as well just in case but the time off has been approved. We will be checking game cams on Sunday. I'll report of there is anything good.

What call are you using? I couldn't get anything with the Primos calls. I bought the Phelps "Elk Commander" single reed and can now bugle and cow call. I had to get the small frame too. Maybe try something else. I don't like the pallet plate, but maybe they will work for you???
