Well I live on the northern border of 31 and I hear ya. We have been over 100 for several days here in Clovis. I heard Roswell has been burning up as well.

Just a few short weeks to go, going out this weekend to hang a camera and set up a blind, as well as pull a camera I hung a few weeks back in a new area. Getting pumped up and ready to roll. Broadheads are tuned up out to 70 yards, got some new merino wool base layers, some new light weight rain gear, and a new day pack to hunt out of this year as well. Think I am ready to get one on the ground.

I wouldn't over think it. Who would pass on a stud framey 8/10pt whitetail because he has weak or avg brows? Not I. I know it's the Gila but it's still 20% success. I'd smoke first bull over 260

From there you just start plugging in his tine length. His fronts are somewhat weak but not terrible...10-12". The 3rds are usually the weakest link on a good bull and his are about normal 8-10". His fourths are great from what I can tell from that pic....18". Hard to tell on his 5th's but they don't look bad....8-10".

So I have him at 308-324. His beams may be longer than 50". Awesome frame on him!
Can't tell a lot from that angle, but I like his mass.

Not too concerned about the rack size. I have found the early season big bodied bulls more tasteee.

For some of you that missed it, me and TBH'er Randy lucked into a Gila hunt (private ranch in the middle of the Gila) last year. It's hard to think about deer hunting after this hunt. Me and caddenhead (Kevin) are booked with streateroutdoors.com for this year near Las Vegas, NM.

Ladrones, can you keep me in mind if you see any elk? I'll be in 17 Sept 1-10 chasing elk with my bow. I'm going Aug 12-15 to scout, but this will be my first trip into 17.... Hoping I get lucky

I remember that thread Chew! Looked like an amazing time. I WT hunt back in MS but it's just not the same as chasing Elk and Muleys. Hope you guys have great luck this year. I know there are some big bulls up that way!

I have friends that hunt in that area every year and always tag out. I hunted once up near Raton but have a buddy that has hunted near Wagon Mound the last few years. Always see them heading up to my buddy's cabin at Eagles Nest.
