243 is a real good gun. I have shot a lot of deer with one but what if you decide to go after some larger animals. You might want to think about a 270 or 7mag but then again just another reason to buy another gun lol! Oh and for scopes I like a 3.5x14x50. The 50 will draw in more light for those sneaky hogs right at dark.

That's important because you might head to your hunting grounds someday and forget your ammo. Don't ask me how I know this!

Rem 700
Wood stock or pink synthetic
Vortex
243...unless you want to practice head shots then 22-250
Sounds like this is just the beginning for your future gun collection. Always buy good arms and keep them. They can be a good investment. Just remember you make your profit when you buy, not sell.

I'm going to chime in here as well. I also say a .243 in Remington 700 flavor. That's what I bought for Kaitlin and she loves it. For a small framed lady like yourself, I'd get a youth stock for it. I got a stock for hers from here, but it came from Stocky's. They have a large selection of stocks there for decent prices. Most are pretty much a "plug and play" proposition, but may require slight modification. Don't worry about that though, the stock I got needed nothing more than a little sand paper in the barrel channel to free float the barrel for better accuracy. This stock is technically an adult stock, but the length of pull (that's the length from the buttstock to the trigger and needs to fit the shooter) is about an inch shorter than my stock Remington 700's stock. The BEST way to figure out what length of pull is right for you is to handle many different rifles with different LOP measurements. If that's problematic though, you can measure from the inside of your elbow to the pad of your trigger finger with your hand held like you were holding a rifle, finger on the trigger. Now, take that measurement and subtract 1" and that will get you close to what you need. Still, there is no substitute from handling and preferably shooting several rifles to see which one fits you best. At 5 feet tall, I would bet you need a fairly short LOP, Kaitlin is 5'4" and cannot shoot my rifle comfortably, but hers, with a slightly shorter stock, fits her well. As far as glass, that all depends on your budget. I'm a Vortex Viper fan myself, Ziess Conquests are great as well, Minox have good reviews and so do the Meopta scopes. Nikon is good, Leupold used to be great, but I think their QC is slipping and the prices keep going up. Swarovski and Night Force are considered the cream of the crop, but you'll pay out the nose for one. They are WAY overpriced for what you get IMO, but tactical and competition shooters swear by them.

my vote goes to the .243 cartridge.
i have killed my biggest body deer (200lbs) and biggest body hog (250lbs) with a 243.
both dropped in their tracks from a 95grain winchester xp3.
i have had good luck with browning, remington, and weatherby vanguard rifles
if you are open to suggestion, you might consider the .25-06 mine has never let me down and the recoil is almost as light as a .243.
