    The Right One For Me

Ok guys I know this is a bow hunting site mainly, but I am the only one in my family that hunts and so I have had to learn most of my hunting stuff from friends or reading posts on here from yall!! Which I thank yall for!!
Ok so all I do is bow hunt, but now I kind of want to get myself a rifle!! I am kind of clueless when it comes to this department! So I was going to see if any of yall would mind naming some brands, calibers, scopes, etc. that are out there so I can somewhat get an idea of what would be good just for a little 100 lb. girl that’s only 5 foot tall!
I have done a little research and I have found that .243, 270 or 280 are my top picks so far!!
Thanks guys can’t wait to see what yall got for me!!

          .243

          Remington 700 w/ synthetic stock

          Leupold 3x9

          All in a matte finish

Have the trigger set to about 2.5-3# by a good gunsmith.

          Kill lots of deer!

280 is great gun can sometimes be little harder to find ammo for. 270 is one of my favorites but can have a little bite for smaller framed person. I bought a
25-06 few years back and really like it a lot. My 13 yr old daughter can shoot it without to much of a problem. Its a savage with accu trigger and shoots pretty tight groups.

Good luck with your search, but you really need to check out the7mm-08 and or the25-06 these are my standard recommendations for smaller/new shooters. As far ad brands of firearms, everyone makes a decent rifle nowdays. Just like bows, you need to handle and shoot as many as possible. Then decide which suits you best.
Get the best opticts you can afford, you won't regret a quality scope. But you will a cheapie.

For the rounds you have listed, get the 243. The 270 and 280 are long action calibers and if your not use to shooting rifles, they are going to kick the tar out of you. If your not wanting to shell out a grand for a rifle right off the get go, go pick up a H&R single shot 243. Good little rifle and can usually pic one up for under $300.

All rounds you listed are great and you would not be dissapointed with any. I would add the .308 to that list because of availability of ammo, and versatility of bullet. As far as brands go, any rem 700 model with a leupold would be my pick. good luck to you.

OH, and when I bought my wife her first rifle it was a 243. I like it so much that if I rifle hunt, I usually grab it over everything else in the safe, including the 270.
Good luck on what ever you choose.

.243 or .25-06 should suit you well. Especially the .243, should be able to find shells for it nearly anywhere.

Top it with a 3-9x40 scope and you're set. Nikon or maybe a Leupold VX-II if you can find a deal.

Ok, well rifles are a huge field field but I'll try to get you started a little. The first and most important thing is that different rifles, calibers, etc work better for different people, so don't get too hung up on the "right" gun, caliber, etc for you.
Have you ever shot a rifle? Everyone's recoil tolerance is different and it can determine what you will enjoy vs what you will hate..or simply not do well with. Shoot before buying

I'll try to break this down by category. I'm assuming for the moment you are looking at a bolt action rifle.

                          Brands:

Well just like with bows everyone has there own preferences, but here are some popular, quality brands you might want to look at. There are a LOT of gun makers out there, many more than I have space for.
                          -Browning
                          -CZ
                          -Remington
                          -Ruger
                          -Savage
                          -Winchester

-the Remington 700, Ruger M77, and Winchester Model 70 are all very popular choices.

                          Caliber
Here in TX pretty much any centerfire rifle cartridge is legal* for deer hunting, .223 remington is about the smallest you'll see people hunt with.
243, 308 winchester, 270, and 30-06 are all very popular cartridges sold by pretty much every ammo maker and can be found in most anywhere.
280 remington works fine as well but is harder to find.
I've killed most of my deer with a 243 or 270.
243 is definitely the easiest on the shoulder.

As for scopes, they are just as huge a field as rifles, but the most popular type for most people is a 3-9x40 or similar.
                          I'd look at-
                          --Bushnell
                          -Redfield
                          -Leupold
                          -Nikon
                          -Minox
At $100-200 I'd go with a Redfield Revolution
at $400 or so a Zeiss Conquest will amaze you

Savage model 110, or a Remington 700, both chambered in .270. The .270 cartridge doesn't have much bite to it on the shooter's end.

Yes they do lol. 243 85 grain bullet will not tap you hard but work s well on deer 100 grain if hogs are in the equation. Make sure not to get a light wieght hollow point unless shooting varmints.

I have always been a ruger fan
