I have a Rossi 24 inch lever in .357 It has taken lots of hogs, some deer and also varmints. The .357 out of a long barrel rifle is a different animal than used in a pistol. I can also shoot 38 special for economy or smaller fare.

Browning BLR gives the most flexibility in caliber but cost more and you may not want to beat it up as much. Hard to beat a Marlin 336 30-30, one of the lower cost models with birch stock. Easy to scope, accurate, reliable and not so expensive that it'll hurt every time you ding it.

          What caliber lever gun?

          I bought this for a truck/tracking gun. It’s not a lever gun. 45/410

Firearms bearing the Rossi name have led the way in design and engineering, all the while remaining an affordable product without any sacrifice to quality.

One criteria of a truck gun for me is not having to worry about it getting banged around, dusty, wet or dirty. (it basically lives on the front of my 4 wheeler) I have enjoyed my Henry All-Weather in 30-30. Stock looks synthetic but it is wood. They now make it with side-gate loading

Curious, why 45 LC over 44 Mag?

IDK but never understood the fad behind the 45LC IMO it should have died off when the 44mag came out. I cant think of anything really that the 45LC can do the 44 mag cant. And the ability to buy mags or spl for non re-loaders is an added plus.

I agree with the 357 statment to. Its a whole different animal out of a 16IN barrel. 158gr soft points will thump.

Winchester 1887 in 12 gauge with 00 buckshot.

Might take 5 minutes to get it out of the truck but it will kill stuff dead.

I don't care for 44 Mag. The Mag in the name usually dictates to ammo manufacturers that they HAVE to load to Mag velocities. I like softer shooting pistol caliber levers. Most don't.

The 45 Colt is SOMETIMES hard to find, so unless you reload, I'd back off of 45 Colt unless you don't shoot a whole lot and don't mind spending the $$ on a couple three boxes when you do find it. I do reload however and I'm a big fan of 45 Colt.

So, as one post said, I think 30-30 would be the ticket.
I also like/love the 38-55, but unless you reload, don't even entertain that idea. It's about 2-3 worse than 45 Colt in price/availability along with 375W.
you might want to research factory velocities on the 44 mag,,,, especially the winchester brand they have at least one that is only about 1100 fps,,,,and don't forget it will shoot 44 special very effectively also,, and might be just what your asking for...... 44 special out of a rifle is noting to look down on!
