    What caliber lever gun?

Thinking about getting a lever gun. Would use mainly for a truck gun for hogs and maybe an occasional deer behind the house. What caliber should I get?

Browning BLR. They chamber almost every caliber imaginable.

    I like the .243 and 7-08.

My model 94 30-30 is my go to gun. It's perfect for hogs, deer, rattlesnakes, coyotes, etc. I've killed more stuff in general with that gun than any other. It holds 7 rounds which is plenty and you can usually always find 30-30 ammo.

I do have a Browning lever gun in 243 but it's a little longer than I like for a truck gun.

An adequate size caliber with easy to find ammunition. 30-30? It'd killed a few deer and pigs, I've heard.

I have a couple of Marlins. A 44 mag and a 45 LC that I load up to the 44 velocities.
            I can't imagine a better truck gun

Make sure to get one that is easy to get ammo for. I got a great deal on a 35 Remington and now can't find any ammo.30-30 is easy to get and very effective gun.

Big 44MAG fan. But at the end of the day 30-30 is probably the answer here. Its kind of a no brainer in this situation.

I have a 30-30 and a .35. I tend to pick up the .35 most of the time when riding around.

Marlin 336 30-30 and be done with it.

30/30 unless you want a pistol round then I'd go 45 colt

Packs a wallop, but I love mine.

                            my sentiments also.
I don't care for 44 Mag. The Mag in the name usually dictates to ammo manufacturers that they HAVE to load to Mag velocities. I like softer shooting pistol caliber levers. Most don't.

The 45 Colt is SOMETIMES hard to find, so unless you reload, I'd back off of 45 Colt unless you don't shoot a whole lot and don't mind spending the $$ on a couple three boxes when you do find it. I do reload however and I'm a big fan of 45 Colt.

So, as one post said, I think 30-30 would be the ticket.
I also like/love the 38-55, but unless you reload, don't even entertain that idea. It's about 2-3 worse than 45 Colt in price/availability along with 375W.

I carry the .444 in my truck. I have shot a lot of hogs and a few deer with it. I can probably count on 1 hand the number of steps all of them have taken after that gun hits them.
