Noticed Ruger American mentioned multiple times
My Ruger .270 is not my beater, it is what I often carry.
    Accurate and light.
the year round hog shooting has sharpened my game.

I bought a Mossberg Maverick Bantam in 243 for my kids several years ago. I actually bedded the action and put a Timney trigger in it. The trigger was slightly less expensive than the rifle. Haha. It's a pretty good shooter, though. I had a Tasco scope that I've had forever and it still holds zero. I had it on a 30o6. It's a pretty good little gun.

That’s some serious firepower for a beater rifle.

Yep, but it's been my go to rifle since I bought it new in 1977. We're both beat-up some, but we still work together pretty well.

Lately I've been taking the Snake Charmer .410 when I go anywhere that I might run across somethin. I've seen skunks thick on the road dead so I figured eventually I'd be somewhere there was a live one but so far I haven't seen anything.

I've shot plenty with that gun as well as pack rats and a few rattlesnakes. I tried to shoot a badger with a slug out of it once but I shot right over his head. I about gave that sucker a mowhawk. I forgot I put a coyote down with it once too. A young wounded coyote....took the top of his head right off.

My EDC, Colt Delta elite from 1987. It is beat up and scratched but still is accurate and reliable as the day it was born.
