T/C Encore with multiple barrels as you can afford them is an option.

My dad has a Weatherby .243 and is a great shooter. I would want something a little bigger in case I got a chance at elk. I'm really wanting a 7mm-08 to shoot.

I have a 30-06, 300 Win Mag, 30-30 and a 7mm-08. The 7mm-08 is my go to gun. Very accurate, low recoil and versatile gun.

Ruger American or Remington 700 ADL in .270. Then stick some good glass on top.

                      30.06 gets my vote.

The .243win is to light for elk hunting.

Lots of options, taking elk out of the equation 243 is a good choice, throw elk in and I would go to the 7mm-08. The Ruger America rifles have impressed me for the price accurate and inexpensive compared to many. I have been using the 7mm-08 for 32 years and it continues to impress me.

My favorite for deer, hogs and varmint these days is a 6.5 Grendel but what is available in them blows the budget.

After my research I went with the 7mm 08. I would also think about ammo availability as you never know when you will need to pick up some shells. So far every place (small town type stores) I have looked has had 7mm 08.
