If you shoot a lot and have good eyesight its very possible. When my eyes were much younger I shot a ruger mkII with a 6 7/8" barrel a lot. When we were at a dove lease we had at Deleon, and had a large tank dam about 250 yds from where I sat. There was a 5 gallon metal bucket about halfway up the dam. I began shooting at it, and by observing the misses, walked the hits right in there. 6' elevation, and about 6' windage due to crosswind. Once I got the Kentucky windage dialed in, I could hit it almost every time. I was in my early 30's, and shot a brick of .22 bullets almost every weekend, so I was a pretty good shot. I don't have anywhere to plink anymore or I would shoot my .44mag at long range.

anyone ever qualify with a .45 in the USMC? that's at 50 yards. down to 10. when I came back home, I had a .44 mag did pretty good at 100. 12in groups at the range. my brother made up a 7-30 waters that would do from the same a easy 3 inch. I shot a pig across the Brazos with a .22 Ruger single six. did not kill it, it was a hit at 150 to 160.

I've killed whitetail over 100 yds open sights but using a good rest.
Can't do it anymore. I do good to hold a 8" group at fifty yards with a rest now.

Spotted for a guy named Terry Batts a bunch back then. One day in particular it was real windy, so much that the rams at 200 had to be clamped to the rail, meaning all hits counted. He's shooting an open gun, 7BR XP100 variant, open sights. We get to the rams and he takes the first shot, perfect shoulder hit. Call it and mark it on his book. Next shot- bang, clang. "Terry, I can't see another hit, you either hit the same spot or the rail." This is with a 40X spotting scope, mind you. 3 more shots, same response. We go to check and reset/ paint targets and he has all 5 shots basically touching at 200 yards with open sights.
