    100 yards with a pistol

How hard is it? Can it be done consistently? Got a guy at work that swears he can "ring steel all day long at 100 yards" with his 10mm

Not too difficult to do it but all day long would be impressive

I hunt with these two old codgers out in Menard that only shoot their 1911's at 100, because "it was good enough to kill Japs and Germans at that distance" so they both figure it's a 100yd gun. Also a point of bragging rights to us 40yr old "young bucks" that haven't ever shot a pistol past 25yds.

With my Springfield xdm 45 with a can. I can hit a 12x24 pig steel target about 75% of the time at 100 yards. 12 inch round plate 50% on a good day.

All day long, it's difficult. I'm good for about 5 or 6 out of an 8rd mag at the distance. I do get tired after about 50 rds at that distance. About the same with a 4.25" M69 Smith in 44mag. All loads are my hand loads, and that was after a good work up. It took me a long time and a lot of practice.

When I wasn't blind, I could hit a tall coffee can at 100 yards with a Ruger semi-auto pistol. Did it many times, but I shot it a bunch too ! If you practice a lot, it's not that hard. Also used to snipe at gopher mounds from 150 to 200 yards on a hillside after mowing. Resting over my pickup toolbox, you could see where the big .44 slugs hit, and in a few shots you could "walk" your bullets right on target. People who never tried it, or never shot handguns a lot won't believe it, but it's true. Now, with my poor eyesight, I'd be lucky to hit a moose with iron, but a Delta Point will make you shine !

BTW, just installed a Zev trigger in this G40, so when I get time, I'll report back !

Many factors on a 100 yrd pistol shot....(what "pistol", amount of practice, etc) I'm not bad with a pistol at all but if you really want to see how good he is on a 12x12 at 100 put some money up like others have said. Not a bunch but just enough to keep things fun. Hitting a 12x12 at 100 is a good shot either way. If it were my buddy claiming "all day long" Id make the bet on 7 out of 10 shots. It's always fun to have a challenge anyway. Of course more money=more pressure. Film it and put it up for us to watch!!!

I shoot at a 24" gong at about 160yds every time I go to the range. When I train consistently, I'm usually good for about 1/3 hits. And this is usually with a glock 17 and standard sights. It can be done as earlier stated, but I wouldn't count on making those hits. With a Rmr and upgraded gun I bet it's easier, I just do it for fun though.
