What’s so different today? They had police officers of sorts back then. Perhaps not as many as today, but then we have more people today too. They had criminals back then, but I guess they called them outlaws. We have catchy names for them too like nutjobs, whackos, terrorists, and let’s not forget gang members.

To me the progression you speak of is just another politically correct thought. We have just as much need to carry a weapon today as they did back then, and they carried concealed too. Not that much has changed.

visions have to start somewhere. i refuse to believe that in a time of slavery, total lack of human rights if you weren't white or a man, absence of child labor laws or labor reform that those folks had it "figured out" nor the govenment that legislated such things into law or lack there of. the presence of law was virtually lacking back in those days, there was some measureable amount but square mileage vs. city, county and state peace officers virtually non-existent. it served a purpose back then and equally important it was a cultural ear-mark of the era.

like i said, i'm NOT my father's father. i DON'T keep my horse at the OK nor gamble at the local saloon. i don't need a gun showing to keep anybody modest because it's already there, hidden from sight and readily accessible. act foolish and make bad choices......they will get to see it soon enough.

You cant judge history by todays values... Its easy to say Slavery is bad now... back then it was as common as a farmer owning a tractor....

I will say that when TRULY great men (Washington, Jefferson, Adams...) ran the U.S. we were better off... these people hated "politics" and rightfully so they had seen what it did in Britain... but instead of keeping with their view we have headed right down the same path that britain. Its scary to watch both our government and their parliament and see just how much they resemble now... the thing we were trying to get away from (fought a nasty war to get free from)... Is what we are becoming.

Thats where I'm saying the Grandfathers' Grandfather had it figured out better than we currently do. Every society has its faults, and every era thinks they know better than the last... thats what has led us here.

He obviously wasn't injured but you get the idea. And with all due respect, anyone who thinks it can't or won't happen, needs to get their head out of the sand.
Reckon it would have gone that way if two or three others had their pistols on their hips as well? I bet not.

I agree, yet someone did. As stated above what if there were three or four people open carrying? There is no way of telling what is going through someone's mind when they are committing a crime. Most aren't in the right frame of mind and or possibly on drugs causing a lack of thought process. They wouldn't probably hesitate to shoot into a group of open carriers. Or even notice if they were carrying for that matter. I'm all for it passing don't get me wrong but you will never catch me open carrying. Ever!

Pickett isn't going to get the message from Texas citizens if we don't speak up. That's how this whole gubberment thing works as stated by many before me. I will continue to pester his office until it at least gets a vote. If you don't support it, that's 100% alright in my book. But if you do then it's your duty to make your voice heard.

                            Rep. Pickett, Joe C

Called and emailed but no response. i read somewhere that there is a march on the capitol to try and get him to allow a vote. Not exactly sure how much good that will do even if it does get out of the house. supposedly there is a senator blocking all gun bills in the senate.

I am not positive but I thought that the party that controls each house, sets the committee chairs. If the Dems have the majority, they control the chairs and vice versa. Currently in Texas the Republicans control both houses so I believe that they set the chairs. If I am correct, the Dems cannot stop something from coming up for a vote in committee.

As to "all gun bills", SB-17 passed the Senate on 4-17-13 to allow employees at charter schools in Texas to carry on campus. The House has not taken action.

On 4-04-13 SB-987 passed the Senate and it allows the Texas AG to file an injunction against any city or county that tries to take away gun rights.

The Senate passed SB-1400 on 4-25-13 that bans cities from enacting ordinances against air guns and sent it to the House. No action has been taken there.

SB-1907 was passed by the Senate on 4-30-13 that would allow a student to keep his CHL handgun in his vehicle while he was at school. No action from the House on that bill although they have a similar one.

It seems like some Senate bills on firearms (and one on air guns) are passing but waiting on action from the House. It doesn't seem like any Dems are stopping these bills.

Don't most of the gun bills fall under the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee which is chaired by Democrat Rep Joe Pickett from El Paso?
