The hearing on HB700 took place yesterday. The NRA and TSRA is fully backing this bill. Alice Tripp of the TSRA was there to speak supporting it.
        Here is a email I received from Noah Gilliam from Lavenders office;
        "Good Morning –

The hearing yesterday went very smoothly. We had many passionate individuals along with Alice Tripp from the Texas State Rifle Association testify in favor for HB 700 “Open Carry”

We laid out our Committee Substitute to address concerns with “dual points of resistance” and Section 30.06 signage.

Now you may carry your handgun in any type of holster. Also, we created a different sign to allow property owners to ban open carry at their discretion. For clarification, Section 30.06 still bans concealed carry and 30.07 bans open carry. Therefore, if a property owner wants to ban both types of carry, her or she will have to post both signs.

Only one person testified against the bill. Thankfully, her testimony was incoherent and not very strong.

We look forward to your continued support as we move forward in the process. Please contact Chairman Joe Pickett to voice your support.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please contact don’t hesitate to email or call.

        Best regards,

        Noah Gilliam
        Legislative Director
        Rep. George Lavender
        Texas House District 1

This is excellent news! Everyone needs to contact as many elected officials as they can to make this happen this legislative session..

This would be helpful. I prefer to carry on my hip with my shirt untucked but for size reasons, my shirts are short sometimes. If we had open carry, I would not stress over accidentally showing my weapon when I reached the top shelf in the store.

It is kinda funny how New York and Colorado and tightening the screws on gun owners and Texas is making it easier. I love my state!

                Hope it passes too!
... think I'll go dig out my old "bounty hunter" Josh Randall rig and start carrying my Mare's leg!! Naw that would draw a bit of attention anywhere... just blend right in.

If I am not mistaken, I remember reading here or somewhere else that the open carry laws apply strictly to open carry. In other words. You are either concealed or your not. There is no in between. If you carry concealed. You still have to keep it concealed at all times. Again if I am not mistaken but im pretty sure that is how I read it .

I don't know how the Texas bill reads, but in other states you are correct. Arizona describes exactly how many square inches must be visible to be considered open carry.

Open carry doesent become an escape for accidental exposure while carrying concealed.

Y'all can have all that open carry. I'll keep them guessing. Open carry just makes you the first target for a nut job looking to shoot a place up.

i guess i'm on the other end. concealed, YES. i don't care to see billy bob and joe bob walking down the street with a big hog leg on their hip, not to mention the wanna be gangstas. i know it probably means just the handle sticking out, etc, but... IMO, this isn't the wild wild west. some people are already paranoid and worried about their daily lives in general. no sense having women and kids scared to death going anywhere for seeing guns. i'm sure there are stats and studies and cases on all these states that have the open carry already, but, it's not for me.
