In for alligator and exotic. Thinking about pronghorn if only to build up some preference points

I've barely looked at the book but will likely start applying for the early deadlines this week.

You don't get any leave? I'm spoiled being military, we get 30 days paid vacation!! Granted I put in a ton of hours and overtime and only get paid salary but it's worth it!!

Good luck to you, I was going to be in the same boat but ended up getting in on a new lease at the absolute last minute lol! It's a really good lease though so I couldn't pass it up!!
I still applied for the Devil's River Exotic hunt and a couple of others though!

                No vacation time?

The state employees like to be at home on the weekends with their families I'm sure.

Plus it's nearly impossible to get drawn for any weekend hunts because EVERYBODY puts in for them.

The week hunts are nice for those of us who can get off work because you have more time to work with. Most of these hunts are not assigned blind, but rather compartment. If you have never hunted the unit before, you will first have to scout out where to hunt. That can take some time and on a weekend hunt, time is not on your side.

How many pref points do you normally need to get drawn?

Depends on the hunt. Some zero. Some 5+. You can look at the hunt catalog and see how many applicants last year and how many permits available and get an idea. There are lots of deer hunts that you stand a good chance of drawing first try.

I am sitting on 22 preference/loyalty points for pronghorn and 15 for gemsbok. Patience mixed with hope

Thanks for the reminder. All signed up now.

My son is 8 and is now eligible to be drawn, so he is signed up for the youth hunts.

                          Good luck to all.

Never applied before and put in for 9 this year. Mostly antlerless or management hunts. Could only hope I get drawn for something. Hopefully it would be one of them with a higher success percentage from last year, or a hill country hunt, then I wouldn't care as much since I'd be in the presence of a good view.
