    Floating Duck Blind

I have been wanting to build a floating duck blind for the past few years and just recently got all my stuff together I needed to do it. We mainly hunt in a 240 acre reservoir that is too deep to walk in for the most part and permanent wooden frame blinds have always been good the first half of the season but after the spilt the ducks get really shy of them. We started this yesterday afternoon and finish about mid day today. I don't have any pictures of the dog ramp but will get some soon. I am gonna take the whole thing and get it hot dip galvanized on Monday and then we will slap some deck boards on it and be ready to float!! I wish I would have taken more pictures but this is all I have for now.

Looks good overall but its way too tall for my taste. Looks impossible to swat birds right over the water. Id also prefer to be able to see more than straight up if i sit down.

I agree and it looks like it will be hard to get you gun up with a few guys gear etc,

Once we put deck boards on there and are wearing waders we will have no problem shooting ducks right over the water. Every other blind I have built the sides have been way too short and you are laying down on the floor of the blind trying to hide while you work ducks. You will be able to see plenty through the cover on the blind. I'd rather have to stand up to spot ducks and then be able to sit down comfortably while working them then spot them sitting down and have to been over to hide everytime you want to work birds.

Rest gun on top of blind, stand up, grab gun, shoot. Seems pretty simple to me

Sweet! Put you a little trolling motor on it and you can cover some ground.

How are you going to attach the barrels to the frame?

We built a floating blind, using barrels like you. Our biggest problem was keeping it anchored. We had about 150lbs of weight trying to hold it down. Never could find a good way to keep it anchored when strong wings came in. It would get blown all the way across the pond.

We plans on pulling it up into big patches of reeds that should hold it just fine.

I'd weld some short pieces of pipe to the corners and make some type of stake out stick. Poor man's power pole if you will. That'd solve any movement.

                            But that's slick!

We used to use 700lbs of railroad tie and half 50 gallon drums on concrete on some we hunted and they would still get blown around in a storm. Would almost flip the boat kicking the anchors in the lake!
